Flower Power: For my daughter's 3rd birthday she wanted a flower theme. I started out by finding a Wilton Flower cake pan.
It made one large flower which I just had to ice with the colors my daughter chose. I came up with two games and a craft for the party. The first game used a large black felt board. (which I made myself) I drew a picture of a sunflower complete with petals, stem, leaves, etc. on paper. Then I used felt to cut out pieces that matched the picture exactly. (Making sure to have one piece for each child) I gathered the kids around and told a story of how I had been given a beautiful flower that looked exactly like the picture, but I sneezed and blew it all apart and now it looked like this! (I dumped out all the felt pieces). I asked them if they could help me put it back together? Each child got one piece and we took turns laying out our pieces where we thought they went to make the flower whole again. (It was great learning because we identified all the parts of the flower as we went!) Then we played buzzing bees. The children each got a head band that had 2 pipe cleaners and black painted Styrofoam balls on the ends. On the floor I had large construction paper flowers that were laminated. When we turned the music on the children "buzzed" around the room. When the music went off, they found a flower to land on. We played several rounds of this. The craft was great fun and was also the party favor! We painted flower pots with all kinds of paints. While the kids were eating cake and playing, we let the pots dry. I then had a helper put green tissue paper in each one and stuck a Styrofoam ball down inside. Then I put a pinwheel (to look like the flower) sticking out of the ball. I added flower erasers, stickers and candy. It was a very simple party that was definitely a hit!
