For my daughters 4th birthday we had a GARDEN PARTY (my daughter like 'bugs' and to make it a little bit more 'girly', I made it a garden party).  The party took place at one of our town's parks. It had plenty of shade and room to run around.  INVATATIONS: I did these on the computer..it was full of pictures of  bugs and flowers. The outside read: " Join us for a Bug-erific Garden Party!"  The inside listed all the info and read "Come have a blooming good time!". DECORATIONS: I didn't use much since the party was outside...just bright colored table cloth and balloons. FAVORS: The kids got to keep the things we used during activities (which I will explain later) PLUS ahead of time I made bright colored bug antennas with cheap headbands, pipe cleaners, pom-poms, and a hot glue gun.  They turned out really cute.  ACTIVITIES: \*First we had face painting...we painted flowers and bugs on everyones faces. (After that I took a picture of everyone w/ their antennas on for the Thank-yous) \*\*Then we had a "BUG HUNT".  Ahead of time I found these really cute bug kits from the dollars store..it came with a clear container to keep your bugs, magnifying glass, and tweezers. I used Paint pens and wrote "(childs name)'s Critters" on the containers. I also got big bags of plastic bugs and hid them around the park ahead of time.  Everyone went around and searched for the bugs...whoever caught the most got a prize (ladybug coin bank) & got to keep what they found. \*\*\*Next we planted flowers. I got little terra cotta pots from wal-mart and used the paint pens again to write everyones names on them. I had buckets of soil and flower seeds...I explained to all the kids if they water them everyday and let them get plenty of sunshine they would grow into beautiful flowers. \*\*\*We finally had a Pinata...which was a rainbow.  The kids had fun with that and got to keep the candy that came out. FOOD:  We had "Ants on Logs" (celery, Peanut Butter, and raisins), Spider crackers (sandwhich together two round crackers with peanut butter and then stick chow mein noodles out for legs) LadyBug Crackers (take round crackers spread w/ veggie cream cheese then take a cherry tomato cut in half put on cracker slightly open to look like lady bug wings and take a sliced olive and lay on closed part for head, take black gel and pipe on spots) Worm Dogs (slice hotdogs long into "worms") Chips, and pop. CAKE: Dirt cake (layers of whip topping, vanilla pudding and crushed oreos) topped with gummy worms and fake flowers. YUMMY!! I think the grown-ups appreciated the food more than the kids!! This was really a pretty inexpensive party thanks to the dollar store...the kids got to take a lot home!! (bug kits w/ bugs, antennas, pot w/ flower, candy from pinata!!)
