For my son's 2nd grade Halloween party we are having a Halloween Luau! PARTY SNACKS: Oriental Trading had some great plates and cups that have skeletons dressed in hula skirts and leis. We
will serve fruit kabobs with Halloween colored fruits (grapes in purple and green, kiwi, oranges, pineapple, bananas). You can also make orange boats out of oranges that have been gutted and
refilled with orange jello and then cut into quarters. I think the recipe for this is at Family Fun. We will also serve little cheeses and cubed meats with Halloween picks in them (purchased
from OT). We will have fruit smoothie drinks in bright colored skeleton cups (from OT).
DECORATIONS: I always like to take a picture of the kids and print it out on my portable printer,to send home with them. I will make a backdrop using a black tablecloth. I will cut a yellow moon out of a large piece of constructiuon paper and place in on top of the tablecloth. Next, cut long strips of blue paper to look like waves, attach this to the bottom of the tablecloth. Next, cut a shark fin out of gray paper and make it look like it is coming out of the water. I have a friend who has an actual lifeguard chair that I am borrowing to sit in front of the backdrop. I will place a cardboard version of a lifesaver on the front of the chair that reads Hallowwen 2008. On the other side I will put a blowup palm tree and a set of Hawaiin looking skeletons purchased from Oriental Trading. The kids will sit in the chair to have thier photo taken. I have also bought some skeleton tissue paper garland from OT to run across the room. The table will be decorated in luau items in Halloween colors. I found an orange party tray at a party store that had tiki men on it. Activiteis: Once you have printed all of your photos you can always have the kids decorate a picture frame using foam pieces. Then send the pics home inside thier new frames. OT sells premade foam frames that kids can esily glue together or you can make your own. I am buying a luau frame and a Halloween frame and coming up with my own design by using pieces from both sets. For GAMES: We will play the Halloween Limbo in Oriental Trading. The last one left with out touching the limbo sticks will win a prize. We are also playing an over under game where we will split into two teams and each team will start off with a coconut painted to look like a jack-o-lantern at the front of thier line. The first team member will pass the coconut over thier head and then the next one will go under and so on. The first team to make it back to the front of their line wins. We are also playing a game where the two teams will run down and put on a Halloweeen hula skirt (purchased from OT) and then do a quick hula dance, then take off the skirt and run back to tag the next person in line. Teams continue to do this until the last person has taggged the first person. First team done wins. PARTY FAVORS: I found some great Halloween sand buckets at Michael's Craft Store. They are black and they have a purple handle with a green shovel. I'm going to write each child's name on the outside of their bucket with an orange paint pen. So far I have bought some Halloween beach balls, Halloween hula skirts, and Halloween leis from Oriental Trading. You can use lots of treats in your bucket that reminds you of a luau or Halloween. I was thinking of using shark fruit snacks and goldfish crackers. Also, OT has lots of brightly colored skeleton suckers, bubbles, and fake teeth - anything in bright colors would be cute for this type of Halloween party. I think the party will be lots of fun! Something different for Halloween. Hope everyone has a great time!
