Halloween Theme:
Haunted Halloween Harvest My sons Birthday is in October, so for his 4th Birthday we did a Halloween/Harvest Theme. The yard was decorated for Halloween with Haybails, Ghosts in trees, Scarecrows, Cornstocks, and lots of Pumpkins...Pumpkin Leaf Bags, and Orange Pumpkin Lights...We decorate for Halloween, anyway, so it was an easy theme to do... We also had a Halloween Flag on the Front Door, which we added..."Happy Halloween Birthday". The inside of the house was also decorated for Halloween...(Halloween is big, big, big, in our household...) Window Clings and orange lights strung all throughout the house to set the mood. Spider Webs with plastic spiders, etc. We decorated the entryway like they were entering a Haunted House complete with a black cat and an animated witch for the entryway (The witch was from Department 56, real cute!) We also had Halloween music was playing in the background...) While the children were arriving, I was dressed like a witch and did Halloween face painting...Choice of a pumpkin, Bat, or Spider. They were also given hats (Witch for the girls) and Wizard Hat(Boys)to use for their Party Hats. (I bought them at a very low price from paper warehouse) The Birthday Boy received a special lighted Halloween Wizard Hat... After they all arrived we decorated Haunted Houses made out of Graham Crackers and chocolate icing... (Pre-assembled them) The kids each received a house on a plate of crumbed Oreos cookies (bought them pre-crumbled in baking section of grocery store) and a cookie inserted in the "Dirt" with their name on it. (It looked like a tombstone)...They decorated their haunted houses with Candy corn, licorice, sprinkles, and Halloween Cupcake Candy (From Wilton)...We also had Marshmallows so the kids could add a ghost to their scene..They kids loved it! Next up was a Halloween Pumpkin Hunt. I purchased mini pumpkins at a local floral nursery...(One for each child) I hid them throughout the backyard. Once each child found their pumpkin (I put their names on them), they could move to a paint station set up outside (Table was two haybails with a large flat board on it) to decorate their pumpkins. They kids had such a great time hunting for their pumpkins, that we hid them three more times! After they were done with the pumpkin hunt, we did a Ghost Piņata, filled with Pencils, erasers, Halloween Toys, tattoo's, etc. (from Oriental Trading Company) While I was making lunch, a friend who has a pony, gave Halloween pony rides around the yard. She dressed like a witch and added a witches cape and hat to the pony. Lunch was sandwiches made from orange colored bread(ordered from the bakery), Halloween Chicken Noodle Soup (Campbell's), Orange Pop, and Cheese Puffs. (I purchased Halloween Glasses, plastic, to take home, but served the orange pop in it...) Cake was bought from a local bakery with an orange Halloween Boarder. I decorated it myself with a graham cracker Haunted House my son had decorated the day before. I also laid the house on Oreo cookie "dirt" and a tombstone with his name on it. He was really proud and told his friends he had helped make the cake... The goodie bags were plastic pumpkin buckets that they used for the piņata treats (tattoos, pencils, erasers, candy etc.) We also sent home their haunted houses, small pumpkins, Hats, plastic Halloween cup, and a Halloween Light Up sticks to use trick or treating. Most of the items were bought at a discount the year before, so it was not a stress on the pocketbook...Also, a good time was had by all...I am having a hard timing coming up with a repeat performance, but your web site has great ideas!
