I have 2 young children, ages 3 and 1, and my husband and I decided to have a Halloween party for them and their little friends.  We made our invitations with orange card stock and cut out spiders with black paper for the front.   We wrote you are invited, and on the inside we wrote the time and date with out address as the dungeon.  We also put come eat drink and be scary!!   We decorated the whole house with a huge spider on the roof of our living room. Orange and black balloons everywhere (high enough up so the young ones couldn't reach.  All the kids came in costume, along with dressed up parents.  When everyone arrived we let the kids dance to Halloween music (the monster mash was a hit!)  Then we iced cookies I had prebaked in Halloween shapes.  I then had a craft table set up, and the kids made a pumpkin out of a orange paper plate. I had cut up shapes for the eyes, nose, mouth, and stem, and the kids glued them on, and put orange sparkles on.   I put a black piece of string through, and they looked adorable.   We then had dinner... I made mini hamburgers for the kids, and cut the cheese in jacolantern shapes. I also made mini buns for the burgers.  The adults had regular burgers.  I also made potato ghosts, which tasted so good, and looked so neat.  I mixed mashed potatoes with cream cheese and piped them out into little ghost shapes.  I used frozen peas for the eyes.  I served the condiments in mini pumpkins, and also had black nachos and dip.   The kids drank purple grape juice and the adults had "blood" red wine as well as punch with plastic spiders floating in it.  For dessert I scooped out oranges and carved faces into them and put in orange ice cream, I also made a spider cake, and witches finger cookies.  When it was time to go home, I gave each of the kids Trick or treat bags I had sewn with Halloween fabric and filled them with Halloween coloring pages, orange homemade playdough, stickers, and a white chocolate ghost lollipop ( I made by piping melted white chocolate onto a Popsicle stick and putting 2 chocolate chips for the eyes). We did the party on a sat, and Halloween was on the Monday, so it was so cute to see all the kids going around with their treat bags.   It was perfect for the ages of the kids, not too much and not too scary!
