Halloween/birthday party combination. K-2 Guests wore costumes. Invitations were on orange card stock in black envelope and invited kids to a haunted house mystery! 1.Outside in backyard we made a "haunted house" out of 12 refrigerator boxes, inside and outside were painted and "sheeted" with black. Each "room" had something scary in it: spiders hanging from "ceiling", bars cut out looking out into a "cell" with a skeleton, neighbor teenage boy "popping" up in another "window" cut out with scary mask- etc. There were strobe-lights and orange lights throughout, as well as smoke-machine smoke. And funny sayings on outside "Enter if you dare" etc... 2. Also outside(this is AZ! warm enough) we had a "graveyard" with headstones made out of large pieces of cardboard with funny epitaphs- fake hands coming up out of ground as well as various "bones" and "skulls" popping up by headstones. 3. Inside, all furniture was covered with white sheets and blacklights and other various scary decorations. 4. We had a "mystery" to solve. I wrote down a clue poem on a large piece of posterboard- and cut it out into "puzzle" pieces. While kids went through haunted house they were to find one puzzle piece. Then they had to work together to put puzzle together and go onto finding next clues. Next clues were written on large cut-out "bones" and placed in and around the graveyard. Each bone had a word on it- when all bones were found kids had to put together the sentence that solved the mystery - where was the cake! 5. We had a couple of other games- pin the eye on the ghost and find the "eyeballs" in the "brains" (cooked spaghetti)- the kids were having so much fun going through the haunted house and playing in the graveyard they weren't too interested in more games!  Food and beverages were "spooky" and music was also of a spooky and kooky nature (The Adams Family etc.)  It was a BIG HIT!
