Skeleton Party For my daughter's 4th birthday party she wanted a non-scary skeleton party. She is fascinated with the human skeletal system. We sent out homemade invitations that read, "Come have a bone rattling good time!" We asked the guests to wear their Halloween costumes since her birthday is soon after Halloween & Carly wore her skeleton costume. We used lots of skeleton, bone, & skull decorations left over from Halloween to decorate the house. When the guests arrived we had a high school girl do face painting while we waited for everyone to arrive. I had cut bone shapes out of shrinky dink plastic & had everyone decorate their bones with colored pencils. They then watched the bones bake in the oven & when cooled I put magnets on the back. I then gave each guest a paper bone with poster sticky on the back. I had them as a group figure out how it went together & stick it up on the wall. Now it was time for a snack. I served sandwiches cut out with a bone cookie cutter. I placed a slice of apple at the end of the sandwich to represent a hand & five baby carrot sticks for the fingers. For the adults I had a veggie skeleton, cauliflower for the head, cucumber slices cut in half for the spine, celery for the arms & legs, green bell pepper for hips & shoulders, carrot sticks for fingers, snap peas for toes & a radish for the heart. After the snack the kids played "Pin the heart on the skeleton" with the skeleton they had pieced together. Next they made back bones with doggie treats. The treats look like vertebra with marrow. You just pop out the marrow & string onto a shoe string. In between each "vertebra" they placed a "disc" of "Magic Foam" by Crayola. At each end I places a washer & then tied knots in the end. I showed them a "spine" I had made earlier without the "discs" & had each try to bend the "back bone". We finished off with a skeleton birthday cake & a song of "The back bone is connected to the ....". Each guest went home with a white goodie back filled with lots of skeleton things that had been on sale after Halloween.
