My daughter's birthday is at the end of October so every year we plan a Costume Birthday Party. I have to remember that it is her party and she needs to have a lot of control over things we
do. We let her decide how scary things are going to be. We decorate the yard with spider webs, tombstones cut from plywood, and creepy scarecrows posted by the front door to
welcome guest.
The inside of the house is decorated with spider webs, skeletons, and tons of creepy signs that say things like Luna C. Asylum. We also cut out tons of different sizes of bats from black paper and hang them from the ceilings using clear thread. All of the games we play have a Halloween theme to them. We changed BINGO into WITCH, all you have to do is change the letters at the top of the cards. There is pass the head, You play this the same as Hot Potato but use a creepy mask instead. We get a lot of screams from this one. Weather permitting hide treat bags outside and at the end of the party let all of the kids outside for the big candy hunt. Waiting for the end ensures that each kid will go home with a full candy bag. Keep in mind that any game you can think of can be adapted to most holidays. The food also has to have the Halloween theme. This year we're serving up mummy-dogs, hot dogs wrapped with breadstick dough and two dots of mustard for the eyes. There will also be a helping of fried fingers with a side of guts, french fries with chili sauce. Kids love it when you give everyday food scary names. We also picked up a full face mask at a party store. You need to plug any holes in the mask and spray it with non-stick spray. Next depending on the size of the mask, you need to mix up a couple boxes of Jell-O (about 4) with about a 1/4 cup of milk to give it a more realistic look. Add some Gumi worms to the mixture and you have a great desert that the kids will ask for year after year. Try to keep the Halloween theme going throughout the entire party. This will make everything fit together much better and you will be pleased with all the happy faces at the party. Just remember when your planing your child's party make sure they are fully involved in it. You want to make them happy.
