My son is having his 8th birthday party. HOGWARTS here we come. We sent out official acceptance letters to Hogwarts to each child to come and that their first day was the day of his
party & ask them to bring a broom etc. (this was fun because we asked them to respond by owl and it was great how creative some of the parents were with this) We invited 16 boys so we
made 16 felt hats, 16 black wands (from dowel rods with white glitter on the ends), and 16 prs of black glasses made from chenille stems. We made a sorting hat and I recorded the sorting hat
song I then said all the house names slowly and randomly so they can pass the sorting hat down the line and be put into groups of 4 in each house. I made cards with each house emblem
necklaces so that they can remember which house they are in. I will then explain from the book (pg 114) how each house has great qualities etc and that they will lose or gain points for their
house during the party. (I will be silly about this like in Potions class of course the Gryffindors will be picked on to lose points unfairly etc just like the book). They are then attending
Potions class (we will do the vinegar and baking soda experiment and make the goop from borax, glue and water). TRANSFIGURATION CLASS will be when they get there wands (I tied blue ribbons on
them with each wizards name and put them in a bucket) the first house where all the boys return with their wands, hats, and glasses on wins. DIVINATION CLASS will give lots of giggles. We are
taking a box of all girls stuff like ballerina slippers, baby dolls etc and they are going to choose something from the box and I will divine their future...like OH YOU ARE GOING TO BE A
BALLERINA. HERBOLOGY CLASS..I took his Potter game and scanned herbology card and made labels for their cups that say herbology and they will each plant a pumpkin seed to take home. We will
then play quidditch which will be the equivalent of hockey with broom sticks. once this is over we will go to the grand hall where we will celebrate the house that wins the House cup (we made
wooden trophies from table legs painted gold and glued the hogwarts emblem on the front). There we will have ice cream, a 8" round quaffle cake (red icing really easy) and cupcakes with
yellow icing with white paper wings for snitches and butter beer.(root beer) We also made pretzel sticks dipped in choco for pretzel wands, twizzlers for licorice wands, lemon drops for
dumbledore and gummy frogs. TO TAKE HOME ALONG WITH THEIR HATS, GLASSES, WANDS, PLANTS AND GOO I melted chocolate chips and made chocolate frogs and wrapped them and tagged them with hogwarts
cards and that they are from honeydukes with 5 galleons on it. We also made dementors chocolate bars (5 sickles) we just rewrapped Reese's but you could use anything. I made little red
material bags with blue ribbon ties and I copied the Bertie Botts emblem and glued on the front
of the bagfilled with jelly beans and wrapped egg shaped speckled gum with droobles best blowing gum 3 knuts and of course they each get a creature of some kind (frog, spider or bat), I made brooms from pencils and rafia with the broom names.(firebolt, clean sweep 7, nibus 2000 and nibus 2001) I will also take pictures of them in Transfiguration class to send out with their thank you cards which will be. ....their "marks" or report cards. Of course we parents will be wearing our witch and wizard costumes during the party and his little sister will be a witch also.(NOTE: We just used purple napkins, orange and black streamers, and purple table coverings. We placed glow in the dark stars on the tablecoverings randomly and stickers from Harry Potter. They used black plates and then their cups were according to their house (green slytherin, red gryffindor, blue ravenclaw and yellow hufflepuff) He is having a few sleep over afterwards and we are listening to the tapes of the books of course.
