Here is a party idea that I'm putting together for my son's class Halloween party but, it would also be a great birthday party for all those Harry Potter fans! As a gathering craft I am
planning to have the kids make wizard hats out of newspaper and wrapping paper (rolled into a cone shape)which they will decorate with stickers and glitter paint.
Next we will play a couple of games that Harry himself would enjoy! The first game is a Quidditch (a wizards favorite sport)relay. Divide the kids into two teams and map out a simple croquet course for each team. The first team to get their ball through the course (down and back for each player)while riding a broom wins the game. The next game is called "Cast the Spell". Place a black cauldron in the center of the room. Divide the kids into two groups. Mark a line on both sides of the cauldron a few feet back from the cauldron. Line the teams up, one on each side. Place a bucket at each line. The bucket should have a list of it's contents taped to the outside. Each bucket will have different but, equal amount of "potion ingredients" (plastic bugs, eye balls, fingers etc.). The first team to empty their bucket and has the most of their teams potion ingredients in the cauldron wins. Every party needs a take home favor. I am planning on having the kids make wizard wands out of giant Pixie Stix (can be bought at most candy stores). They will decorate the stix with gold and silver star garland and mylar streamers. They will decorate a cardboard star with glitter and staple it to the top of their Pixie Stix. A sweet treat and fun take home favor! To end the party we will have wizard cupcakes made from flat bottomed ice cream cones. After icing the cupcakes you can make the wizard's face with candy. Top the cupcake with a sugar cone for the wizards hat. Serve different potions to drink made from various colored Kool-Aids. Serve your potions from science lab beakers.
