Harry Potter Party
This is a fun party for any age, and any gender. What you can do for invitations is make a wand, or buy one. Usually a dollar store has cute little wands. Or you can make one and be creative. Write the information on some nice fancy stationary. Try to write it in cursive, or some kind of fancy writing. Take two pieces of tape, then tape one edge of the top of the paper/letter and put one piece of tape on the left and right side. Then roll the paper carefully up all the way, and place one more piece of tape in the middle so it doesn't unroll. Then you should have a wand and the letter rolled up around it. Tell the guests to bring their wands with them to the party. For decorations hang up dark streamers, and try to find purple and black balloons. When the guests arrive collect their wands and keep them in a safe place. Then do the hat sorting test. Have everyone either sit or stand in a certain place inside or out. Then hold up a hat, fill the hat with names on pieces of paper, of the names from the movie, of the different categories they can be in, such as, Slitheran, you know the rest. Put an even amount of names in the hat, so that there will be the same amount of people in each group. Then once everyone has their names, you can hand out name tags stating the groups their in so that everyone will know whose who. This will allow easyness when you start playing relay races, you won't need to keep dividing up in to teams, and it will save time. So then you can start out for relay races. Usually at dollar stores they have broom sticks. You might want to buy as many broom sticks as there are children. A game you can playing using these broom sticks, is hockey. It sounds kind of strange, but you can buy a little ball or puck like object, and then use the brooms, get into your teams and then start playing hocky. Another game could be bounce ball pass. Buy one of those large bouncy balls that they have at toy stores, then using the broom sticks, have the teams, pass the ball back and fourth in the air, using the broom sticks. If you have a volley ball net, it would work even better, but if you don't, then you can make you're own just placing objects in the middle of the teams. Afterwards go inside and have an activity time. You'll need a table with a table cloth, or newspapers, little bowls that you don't mind getting dirty and slimy, plastic spoons, a recipe for slime, and the stuff to make it, and anything else you need. Then the kids can make their own slime, if there are boys and girls mixed, you might want to get different colors of food coloring so they can decorate the slime however they want, such as pink, green, blue, etc. Place the slime in a plastic baggy so they can take it home as a party favor. Next everyone will probably be pretty hungary. For lunch you can serve chicken legs, fruit in bowls, soup, punch, etc. After lunch go back to the fun part. Hand back all of the wands, then you can have a jelly bean contest, at Borders they sell Harry Potter jelly beans, but the jelly beans have kind of grose flavors, such as grass, bugars, you get the idea. Seperate the jelly beans into seperate flavors into seperate piles. Then try to have each team and each person on each team guess what flavor the jelly bean is being blind folded. If the team members get the flavor right then write it on the score sheet, if not then also write it on the score sheet,at the end count up the total rights on each team, and the total wrongs on each team. Then announce the winning team. Think of other games you can play. Now for the wands. Mostly in first and second grade you might make tornado or cloud in a jar.Look for that activity and how to do it on the internet or in an activity or science book. Then have them pretend their creating a potion where they can make a cloud or tornado in a jar. You can write up how to do that activity/potion and glue it on the jar for each guest so they can take it home and make their own. Sand art is kind of like a potion because you can make it in a jar. SO you can make those as party favors. Finally for the desert. Get vanilla ice cream, then get food coloring, you can dye the ice cream those colors to make it look creapy and gross like at hog warts. For cake you can have cup cakes, and dye the frosting the same colors as the ice cream. Afterwards break out the snacks and put on the Harry Potter movie for everyone to watch. While they're watching the movie get out the goody bags. You can put the boxes of harry potter jelly beans inside, spider rings, the activities they made. Stickers, and more.
