For my sons 10th birthday we celebrated HOGWARTS style and he and his friends had a blast!! First I printed invitations from a website I found that had Harry's picture and the type set used
was the same as Hogwarts. Birthday express is a great resource for party supplies and I was able to purchase from them a mylar owl(Hedwig)for the centerpiece, all of the paper supplies I
needed. They also had in stock lightening bolt tatoos, stuffed mini owls and black rimmed glasses for each guest. My local grocery store had Bertie bots in stock in individual boxes, I also
found Harry Potter bookmarks on a website and printed and laminated those to add to the goody bags. DECORATIONS: We had his party outdoors and I made a large sign out of posterboard that read
Platform 9 3/4. on each side of the sign I hung red and white streamers to mimic a brick wall that the guests had to walk through in order to enter the garage. Once inside, the large owl had
been suspended in the air by helium, (I taped the streamers of the balloon to the picnic table. I made floating candles by tying thread to long white tapers and hung them from the ceiling at
different lengths throughout the garage. To mimic the appearance of flames use red and orange tissue paper at end of candle. I decorated with a dark blue tablecloth covered in gold stars and
extra mini owls that I had purchased. GAMES:GNOME TOSS- We had a gnome tossing to start things off. I bought scrap material in a drab beige material and made an elfish gnome looking figure,
filled in with rice and sewed it up. The kids all took turns tossing the gnome as far as they could and we measured the distance. The child who tossed it the furthest won!GOLDEN SNITCH HUNT-
We also had a hunt for the golden snitch. The snitch was made from a styrofoam ball painted gold and small white feathers. (hint: when painting styrofoam do it in light layers and let dry
between each coat..otherwise it will melt.) The adults hid the snitch and then the boys had to find it whomever found it first won the game. BALLOON BUST- We tied inflated balloons with
chocolate coins inside to each childs leg, object was to bust the other persons balloon by stomping it without getting your own stomped.. and each child had a sweet chocolate treat
inside.QUITTAGE- This was a game to occupy them until their parents arrived after we had cake. I hung two hula hoops in my back yard from two different trees, inflated balloons were used as
balls and the boys seperated into teams. One child was the keeper and had to guard the hula hoop, the other boys had to get the balloon without it touching the ground into the other teams
hoop,(can use mini brooms or bats for this as well according to age) Team with most points won! REFRESHMENTS: The cake was purchased from a local bakery and they did a great job, Harry flying
on a broom playing quittage. The kids had cake and ice cream, and special magical potion to drink. I used sprite and koolaid mixed with pop rocks to give it a magical fizz and crackle
sound.(add pop rocks at last minute for maxium fizz and pop) The kids opened their goody bags to find the bertie bots. This in itself became a game.. find out who could eat the most vomit
beans, or earwax or dirt beans. YUK!! My son loved the time and effort that went into his party and it was a huge hit with all of his guest as well!!! Party the hogwarts way for your childs
next party!!
