Harry Potter Party Palooza (9-13)- For my 13th Birthday, my family and I put together a Harry Potter Party for me and all of my friends. Kids from the ages 9-13 showed up. For the invitations,
we wrote on parchment and delivered them in their mailboxes rolled up. This is what it said... Dear Mr./Ms. (their name here) we are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted to
Monica's 13th birthday party. Train leaves at 3 o' clock PM on May 31 pick up is at 11 o' clock AM. You will be needed to bring your overnight party supplies your school uniform and the
knowledge of Harry Potter. Please send an owl of RSVP no later than May 15th. Sincerely Minerva McGonagall." The kids were dropped off at the front of the house with the mailbox
disguised as a train. We put up a sign with arrows in different directions (Hogsmeade to your left Forbidden Forest to your right Hogwarts straight ahead.) The kids walked straight ahead up
the porch steps hanging from the door were red and gold stars. As they walked in they were in awe at the sights of our house. Surrounding them were tons of Halloween decorations giving them
the feeling they were at hogwarts;pumpkins eerie candles fake bats etcetera. We also made ghosts by ordering balloons filled with helium and putting extremely light weight sheets over them.
My mother was dressed up as Professor McGonagall and lead all of the children into the dining room (the great hall). After all of the children were settled down in their seats she introduced
me. I walked in with my Hermione costume on. Everyone clapped and wished me a happy birthday. Then my mother sorted the children into their houses (Gryffindor Hufflepuff Ravenclaw and
Slytherin) by having them pick one of those names out of a hat. There were four kids in each house (me automatically being in Gryffindor). She explained the rules to them if they did
something good the teacher would be award them with house points(bertie botts) if they did something bad their "house points" would be taken away. Each child was given a sack to
carry the bertie botts in. There were also bertie botts hidden all around the house for them to find. Their first class was Transfiguration held in the living room. My mom explained that we'd
be transfiguring pictures into keychains or in other words shrinkydinks. All of the kids were given a sheet of paper with a hole on the top. When they finished the picture they'd place it in
the shrinkydink oven and it would come out hard hot and mini. When they cooled the kids slid a key ring through the hole and they had their own keychain. The next class was potions in the
basement. My dad dressed up as Snape. There were four tables with four chairs so the kids could sit with their house. He explained that each group would be making Eweey Gooey Goblin Goo. He
warned them that this will make a mess so they will be graded on how neat they were. There were five items on each of the tables; water flour a large mixing bowl food coloring and a wooden
spoon. The goo was made by mixing the water and the flower in the large mixing bowl with the wooden spoon. After about three or four minutes of mixing the mixture will be thick and gooey. Add
a few drops of food coloring mix it a little more and then it is ready. The kids were all feeling inside the bowl with disgusting looks on their faces but thought it was still cool! If the
kids wanted a bottle of their own my dad would pour some of the goo into empty shampoo bottles. When potions was over the kids walked through the basement to the garage into the backyard. My
friend's mom agreed to be Madame Sprout. We potted plants and decorated the pots with stickers glitter markers etcetera. Then we stayed there for care of magical creatures. My friend's mom's
husband dressed as Hagrid. We made craft owls. Each student was given a 2 liter empty bottle of pop. On the picnic table were glue styrofoam balls googly eyes orange pipecleaners and painted
white newspaper cut up into 2 or three inch strips. They glued the tops of the pieces of newspaper onto the bottle. After layering the entire bottle several times it looked like there were
feathers. Each student was given one of the styrofoam balls and glued the eyes onto it and made a beak out of the pipe cleaners and stuck that in the styrofoam. The head was glued to the
bottle and each kid had their own snowy owl! They set their owls on the picnic table and walked back inside for charms class in the family room. That was where the trivia was held. They would
pick a question out of one of three cups. Each cup had different leveled questions. In clockwise order each student would pick a question out of the cup and my mom would read it to them. If
they got it right they were awarded house points based on how difficult the question was (easy-1 medium-2 hard-3). At the end of the game all of the sacks of bertie botts were collected and
counted. The winner got a hermione snowglobe. They walked back into the great hall after charms class for dinner. We ordered a pizza called Molly Weasley's Weezy Extra Cheesey Pizza. We
served butterbeer(cream soda mixed with butterscotch syrup) in gold goblets. For dessert we had a harry potter cake and a cherry-lemon jellow tower (red and yellow pan-sized jellow circles
piled up onto eachother). When all of the kids were done eating we went outside and played a game of quidditch. It was Gryffindor and Ravenclaw versus Hufflepuff and Slytherin. Two hula hoops
were tied to a tree branch at opposite ends of the yard. One player from each team (the keeper) would guard the hula hoops from getting a ball through the hoop. Three chasers passed around a
ball trying to score in the opposing team's hoop. If they scored they are awarded ten points if the keeper blocks it he tosses it to a chaser on their own team. 3 beaters pass around a small
squishy ball. They try and throw it at the bigger ball if the opposing team has it. If the squishy ball hits the big ball the person on the opposing team must throw the ball up in the air so
anyone can get it. The last player on each team is a seeker. A gold spraypainted ball was hidden somewhere in the yard somewhere where it can be seen but only a little bit. One seeker on each
team looks for it. Whatever team finds it first the game is over and they are awarded one hundred and fifty points. Whatever team in the end has the most points wins the game. When the game
was over the kids walked inside and set up their sleeping bags in the family room. We watched the movie Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and then went to bed. In the morning we had Dungbom
doughnut holes and wizard juice. In their treatbags were bertie botts chocolate frogs jelly slugs cockroach clusters ice mice and more. The kids had a blast and i can tell they will be
talking about it for a long time."
