Party Supplies

We spent a great deal of time planning this party for my 7 yr old daughter. When the guests arrived, I let them in greeting them to the Leaky Cauldron. I had the table set up with a red and white plaid tablecloth and I offered them pizza and a choice of Dragon's Blood Wine (Red Punch) or Ale (RootBeer). Then after everyone had finished we told them they had to go to Gringott's to get their bags of gold for purchasing school supplies in Diagon Alley. I took an old black umbrella and tapped the front door which was then opened, two of them at a time were put into a wagon and run around to the back yard in a winding way by my husband, they then had to climb up into the playset fort to go into the vault and get their gold coins (chocolate coins in a bag). When they had all gotten their gold, I opened the back door and they were brought into Diagon Alley. I had four different areas for them to buy school supplies. They went to four different "stores" and bought their wands, which were stripped thin branches from our trees and shrubs. They bought potions, which was a packet of Alka Seltzer Tablets with strict instructions not to open them before class. They were also allowed to purchase some Bertie Bott's Everyflavor Beans, which were Jelly Bellys and to the bookstore for their school folders. I had taken inexpensive black pocket folders and glued pictures from the web onto each folder, we then laid down clear contact paper over them so they could keep them after the party.   They were moved into the front room, which had previously been the Leaky Cauldron and now was the Great Hall for sorting. We had a pointy witch's hat and put them on a stool. They were sorted into three of the school's houses (no one was put into Slytherin) and then they were given a class schedule. I had divided the children into two "classes" and then they switched off. My husband had taken some aluminum foil and covered a tennis ball and spray painted some lightweight netting and made wings for a Golden Snitch. Half of the kids went with him for Flying 101 and Quidditch Practice. We had collected all the brooms we could from friends and neighbors and let the children race up and down the sidewalk for a few minutes and then my husband had put the Golden Snitch on a long string at the end of a broom handle and the kids ran around on their brooms trying to capture it. Meanwhile in the backyard I had a picnic table set up with a tray and a glass jar. First I let the children take one tablet from their Alka Seltzer packet and drop it into the jar and then they each had a small plastic cup of vinegar. I told them all to pour it in together and the result was spectacular and the kids loved it. Then I had a small plastic film container and we put half of a tablet into the container and quickly put some vinegar in and the lid on. I had them point it at a large tree in our yard and the cap went shooting off with a loud pop. They had enough to do this twice each. Then my husband and I switched the kids. Afterwards they all had Magical Creatures Class in our front room. I got my daughters backboard out and they listed creatures and they got to show what they knew about them. This was a good way to settle everyone down a bit for cake and opening presents afterward. We told everyone that we needed to move to the Great Hall for a Hogwart's Birthday celebration. We announced my daughter's name and we applauded for her. Then I served her selection of birthday cake.  The last event was when they were all finished with the cake and opening presents, my husband and excitedly explained that Fluffy had escaped and we needed to find him. Outside we had a Fluffy Piņata that we had special ordered from a local Piņata store. This was the perfect way to end the party. They broke him open for treats and small toys. I had small brown paper bags that I had glued more images onto. I had put each child's name on it and they were able to put everything into it for going home.  This party was a lot of work, but every moment was planned and the time went very quickly. Everyone had a great time and talked about it for weeks.
