For my daughter's 10th birthday, she wanted a "Hollywood" party.
After several searches for something to do, I found a website that specialized in kids interactive party kits. Dramatic Fanatic allows you to choose a party, pay, then download a link to your e-mail and print. They had a "Hollywood Mystery Party" for 8-16 kids, ages 8-12. It was great. The first thing was to choose girls to play the 16 parts. Only 8 of the parts were a must. However, there was another 8 parts if you wanted more girls, and all of the parts had the same amount of "stage" time. Each part was a spoof of a famous person. My daughter was "Angelina Josephina" (Jolie), another girl was "Susan Lunchbox" (Lucci), etc. I made invitations on Microsoft Publisher that were stage curtains, with the party information on the front. On the back I put stars and explained the mystery party game. Included with the invitation was one of the sixteen cards provided in your party kit, explaining which character that girl would be. We requested that they dress like their character. I called a local banquet hall and rented their library. They set up a podium and two tables for 8 girls each. As her birthday present, my daughter asked for a limousine to take her to the party, with her 3 best friends riding with her. The limousine picked them up and took them to the party. The other girls were there waiting. The limousine pulled up in front of the door and she walked out on a red carpet, just like the "oscars." The girls looked great. They were all dressed up. I even dressed up as an old celebrity to play the hostess. We played the first round of the game where each celebrity received an award. They came up to the podium and gave an acceptance speach, then they ate lunch served by the hall. Then we played the second round where eight suspects are identified. The remaining girls serve as detectives. The detectives then question each of the suspects. After round two, we opened presents. The third round narrowed down the suspects and had another round of questions. Then we had birthday cake. After the cake, each girl received a ballot to cast their vote for the "criminal". They each got to come up and give their guess. The celebrity criminal was revealed. For goody bags, we found bath gel that had stars and clapboards on the front. We attached little cloth bags with lip gloss, body glitter, and small fingernail polishes to the bath gel bottle.
