Ice Cream 7yr

Honorable Mention

January 2005

Rachel in Urbandale, Iowa, U.S.A.

What do seven-year-old kids love more than making cool stuff? ICE CREAM!!! For my seventh birthday, I combined both of these to make THE ULTIMATE party. I invited seven children my age, both  boys and girls, and used invites made of cardboard in the shape of people. My mom and I then glued on  cloth clothes and little white aprons. (For instance, Matt never wore anything but jeans, so Matt's invatation  had jeans.) On the apron, it read: "You scream, I scream, We all scream for..." And on the inside it read,  "Rachel's seventh birthday!" We stuck little stickers of ice cream cones all over them. (I thought those were sooo cool!) Our game plan was as follows: 1 o'clock- Everyone comes over. Until 1:30- Play The Name Game (You need a ball of string. Everyone sits in a circle, and the birthday child starts with the string. S/He  says, "My name is _____ and I like _____." Everyone joins in... "HOW ABOUT YOU?" And they toss the string to whoever they want.) 1:30- Get messy! We placed eight clean, starched (Makes it MUCH  easier for little hands to work with) white aprons (One for each person there,) on newspaper and Mom set out plates of fabric paint. When we were done, we waited for them to dry by playing Zoo. We all were animals escaped from the zoo, and my grandma was the zookeeper. She had to guess what we were,  and if she did, we went back to our cages, drank "Poison Sap" (Really Sprite mixed with Welch's White  Grape Juice), and became a totally new creature! The person who had to drink the "sap" the least got a  prize. Then we did presents. By then it was 3:00. We then set out plates of ice cream toppings (Whipped cream, caramel, M&M's, you get the picture.) and two cartons of ice cream- chocolate and  vanilla. Everyone made their own ice cream sundaes in their new aprons. We awarded prizes for the Most Toppings Used, etc. (Gift certificates, little toys, and things like that.) Each person got a prize, and Mom took a picture of me, them, their prize, their apron, and the present they gave me. We sent them  that picture in the thank-you notes. Everyone went home at 4:00, so it wasn't late enough to spoil their  dinners. Everyone loved the party! Most of my friends still have that special picture, even though I'm thirteen now! I hope you enjoy this idea as much as I did! :)
