For my daughter's 6th birthday, we had an Ice Cream Social. Her classmates were given bright colored invitations that were folded and placed inside an ice cream cone.
We covered the invitation with pink colored saran wrap and tucked it into the cone, making it look like a real ice cream cone. Each guest made their own ice cream sundae, complete with all the necessary toppings; no limits! Yummy! Guests were given pennies upon arrival, in which they could purchase "penny candy" from the country store we put together(tootsie rolls, gum, etc). The kids played with a ice cream pinata' and played "build the ice cream cone" (our version of "pin the tail on the donkey"), except they had 3 scoops to put on the cone. The music played during the social was a selection of party songs from the past We also had a cake decorated with an picture of an ice cream sundae. Party favors were miniature "soda pop" (Coke) glasses filled with goodies and we put a pixie stick candy in it to make it look like the straw! They were soooo cute and everyone had so much fun! It was definitely one to remember. We didn't have the kids dress up, but it would have been cute to have them in 50's attire! Thanks for your ideas! I have and love the book, "Pick A Party" .
