For my daughter's 5th birthday we had an "Ice Cream Social". Who wants this mess at their house? At no charge, I used the banquet room at a local family restaurant. For only the cost
of the ice cream, drink and topping ($3/child) each child was served ice cream in a parfait glass. The table was loaded with sprinkles, candies, syrups, nuts, cherries, and whipped cream. The
kids had a blast making their own sundaes. The cake was so easy...a round for the scoop and a triangle cut from a rectangle for the cone. Iced white on top and brown on the bottom-- it was a
hit. Each child was served a cupcake baked in an ice cream cone. We played "pin-the-cherry-on-the-ice-cream-cone". This was made easily by drawing a simple vanilla ice cream scoop
on a cone. I cute red-round foam circles as the cherries. Each child's name was written on it in a black marker. The children were then blind-folded and tried to get the cherry on the top.
The winner was given a gift certificate to a local ice cream shop. The kids sang songs on the karaoke machine and danced while snaking on ice cream cone shaped cookies and cheese sandwiches
cut like ice cream cones (both made from the same cookie cutter).
The center-piece was a ceramic ice cream cone (found at a yard sale) filled with a weight holding up balloons (3 white and one higher red one to look like a sundae). My daughter wore a dress with an ice cream sundae applique and of course a bow to match. Each child took home a goodie bag with a Hershey bar wrapped with a homemade wrapper sporting an ice cream sundae and the phrase "Your gift was sweet, but being at my party was sweeter!" The kids' bags also had bubbles (cone shaped) and an ice cream cone "popper" both purchased at a party supply store. Each kid had a great time. The parents are still talking about what a super party it was. I had little to no work in putting it together. And the best part...the restaurant got to do the clean-up!!!!
