All-American Ice Cream Social We had an All-American Ice Cream Social. We planned it for a few weeks after the fourth of July so we could get some decorations and party supplies on sale.
For invitations, I bought flag border paper at the office supply store and made the invitations on our computer. We told the children that we would be playing water games and making ice cream
sundaes. The party was in our backyard. We set up water tables with little boats for our youngest friends and set out the sprinkler for the older children. We used my son's soccer goal as a
target for water balloons. The first hour of the party was water play and the second hour was time for ice cream. We had chocolate and vanilla ice cream. The toppings were sprinkles, bananas,
crushed oreos, gummy bears, chocolate chips, chocolate sauce, and whipped cream. ( We had no nut products at our party, because we had a guest with severe peanut allergies.) Each child got to
make their own sundae. We gave them paper soda jerk hats to wear. We decorated our house with all the flag decorations we could find. I hung flag paper lanterns in our backyard tree. We
covered the table with red and blue table cloths and sprinkled flag confetti on the tables. We set up chairs in the shade for parents and put out some snacks and drinks. Each child got to
take home a star shaped bubble necklace. I put these necklaces in small blue bags and put stickers on the bags. A good time was had by all.
