We just had an Ice cream party for my daughter's first birthday. All the kids had a blast and it took up all the time we had for the party (and then some) so there was never a dull moment.
First I made up t-shirts that all said "My ice cream shirt" (a plain, packaged, Hanes type boy's T-shirt, stencils, and cloth paint). I made these shirts so that the parents
wouldn't get upset about the kids ruining their clothes with ice cream. So as soon as they walked in the door I gave them a shirt and then they had to make their own name tags. I pre-cut
circles and triangles out of construction paper; cut scraps of paper; gave them glitter and glue and they all made them into ice cream cone shaped name tags which the parents put on them with
a safety pin. We also had one of those air jumpers so while people were still showing up and making their name tags the kids were jumping and having a good time. Then we did hot dogs and
macaroni for the food...nothing fancy! After that it was time for the ice cream! I bought some cheap but pretty bowls at the dollar store @ 2/$1.00. I served ice cream but on the table I had
sprinkles, chocolate syrup, caramel syrup, gummy bears, and M&Ms so that the kids could make their own sundaes. They really enjoyed that! Then I had a piņata shaped like an ice cream
cone. We were busy the whole time! This type of party was great because we have kids from 1 to 12 or 13 so it was fun for all of them! The adults liked the ice cream too!
Some other things we were going to do but couldn't be prepared in time were to make a huge ice cream cone that the kids could stand next to and pretend to be taking a bite while I took a picture. I could download the pictures before the end of the party then the kids could paste them to a big piece of construction paper and decorate around it to give to their parents! I thought it would have been fun...
