Go Diego Go Party My 3 year old boy (Jared) loves Go Diego Go. However, if you have tried to have a party yet with this theme you will find that there is very little out there yet, so it
took quite a bit of planning and doing the work instead of buying pre-made kits. But it was worth every minute of it. I went to NickJr.com and found invitations to print out for our little
guest. There are also, placemats, connect the dots, coloring pages, cookie ideas, game ideas and more. However, I wanted all of the kids, especially the birthday boy, to remember this party.
My husband and I went to the local carpet store and asked for 2 of the tubes that the carpet comes on. They were very willing to give them to us for free. My husband cut them into different
lengths (4 to 6 ft pieces = total of 4), we went and bought cheap brown spray paint and painted them, cut out large leaves from green poster board and attached them at the top, put them in
cheap buckets with QuickCrete and we had trees. I went to the local library, borrowed the overhead projector, and had them to make projection sheets (for .50 per page – put 5-10 on each sheet
because you can really get them BIG when using the projector) from off line coloring sheets and coloring books that I found at Wal-Mart. I enlarged them onto poster board and made Diego,
Dora, Alicia, Baby Jaguar, large rocks, trees stumps, and other jungle animals to attach to the walls and use for decorations around the party area. For treats and goodie bags I went to
Oriental Traders and went into their "Jungle" themes and they have jungle goodie bags, kaleidoscopes (to represent Diego's telescope), jungle animal hat (that the kids can color),
rolls of stickers (use these to stick on opposite sides of a toothpick and down into a cupcake as the pick). There are also tons of goodie bag stuffers on their site. We made a large Monkey
and enough peeled banana stickers for each child to get a chance to feed the monkey instead of Pin the Tail on the Donkey. We had green Kool-Aid as Jungle Juice, Pizza, Diego shaped brownies,
and Cup Cakes with the home made Diego picks, banana chips and trail mix. When the kids began to arrive we started with plenty of music to get them in the mood for a fun time and let them
begin with coloring their own jungle hat and Diego Placemat (we laid out at least 8 boxes of crayons at different places on the tables so that there wouldn't be an argument over one color).
We had balloons in green, yellow, blue, red, orange, and purple (vibrant colors) and table covers that I had found on clearance at Thanksgiving time that were filled with all sorts of bright
colors. After everyone arrived and had finished coloring, we played a round of musical chairs while my husband cleaned up the tables and put out the animal shaped plates, forks, and spoons
that we found at the store as well as animal shaped sippy cups. We had one table set with food so that the parents could help themselves and we made a small assembly line to get the kids
everything that they wanted. After eating and playing, they played "Feed the Monkey" and we took their picture with a large Diego that we had put on thicker board (and made a prop for it to
stand up)so that they could stand beside him and it look like Diego was really there. (We put 2 of the trees on either side of it for an added background touch.) The kids wanted to run so we
opened presents quickly and let them run outside and we had a small treasure hunt with objects that you would find on "Go Diego Go" and in the Amazon Jungle. They had fun and burned off a lot
of energy. After another round of Jungle Juice and a few more coloring activities, we ended the party with a Diego Movie (the only one that I could find). The kids were wound down and ready
to sit and watch it so that the parents could have some snacks and just sit back and relax. A few days later I let my kids (birthday boy and his older sister – Makala) help me print the
pictures of each child with Diego and one of the group pictures and we sent these out with Thank You Notes that you can also print from NickJr.com. The kids had a blast and all of the prep
was truly worth it.
