My son is crazy about Dora and Diego.  Unfortunately, there are not a lot of Diego products out there yet. There are lots of Dora things but mostly they are directed at girls.  So, for my son's 5th birthday I set out to plan a fun Diego party that would be suitable for boys or girls.  The invitations I printed from the Nick Jr. website. They were very cute and easy and invited the kids to come for a wild time.  There is no partyware available for Diego so I decided to focus on a jungle theme. There are jungle themed plates available from party stores but I decided to go with zoopal plates, cup, and silverware that are cheaper and available in the grocery store. I got a jungle tablecloth from Oriental trading to finish off the table. For my son, I ordered on Ebay a homemade rescue pack and vest just like Diego's. He wore them with shorts, a blue shirt, and boots and looked just like Diego.  As the kids arrived, they were kept busy either with coloring Diego, baby Jaguar, or Alicia pictures I printed from the Nick Jr. website or they could make jungle animals with craft foam kits I ordered from Oriental Trading. When everyone had arrived, we started with a game of pin the picture on Click the camera (from the Go, Diego, Go show).  I drew a picture of Click on a piece of white poster board and gave each of the kids a jungle animal picture I had printed and they tried to pin the picture in the right spot.  Then, the phone rang and it was a call from Diego.  We put the call on speakerphone and everyone could hear Diego talk to my son about his favorite jungle animal. For $2.50, you can order a call from Dora or Diego on the Nick Jr. website. That was a big hit.  Next, I told the kids I had heard from Diego and he told me Baby Jaguar was in trouble and we needed to save him.  I had bought my son a Fur Real Leopard for his birthday but told him it was a baby Jaguar as leopards and jaguars are very similar. I put the jaguar perched on our swingset and took a close up and distant picture of him. When I told the kids he needed help, I put the close up picture of him on Click so they could see him in need. Then we asked Click to zoom out so we could see where he was.  The zoomed out picture was on the back of the close up so I flipped it over on Click and they saw that he was on the swingset. On the back of the poster board with Click on it, I made a map that showed how to get to Baby Jaguar. They had to go through an obstacle course to get there and I took pictures of each part for the map.  This part was done in my basement.  First they had to cross Turtle River (a blue sheet with turtle pictures taped on it for them to walk across).  Then they had to go through frog forest. For this, I made vines out of rolled up brown paper and taped them on the wall along with green leaves cut out of construction paper.  The leaves each had a number value on them and they threw sticky frogs at the leaves to get see how many points they could get. Beware that the sticky frogs leave spots on the wall so you should put up a sheet if the wall is painted.  Next, the kids went through bear cave (a train table covered with a blanket).  Then, they had to get past the poisonous snakes. I hung long curvy balloons from the ceiling that I had put eyes and a forked ribbon tongue on. I also hung green streamers around to make it look like a forest.  They were given a paddle to hit the snakes out of their way as they went through. Finally, they had to get over the quicksand. This was a brown blanket laid under our deck.  I asked the kids what Rescue pack could turn into to help us get over the quicksand. We decided a rope would be best.  I took my son's rescue pack and threw it up on the deck while saying activitay to activate rescue pack.  At the same time my husband dropped down an orange rope that was tied to the deck. The look on my son's face was priceless. He really thought the rescue pack had turned into the rope.  They swung across and then rescued Baby Jaguar. I had also hidden small plastic jungle animals around the playground so they each got to find and keep two of them. While outside, we played Dora, Dora, Diego (like duck, duck, goose). The kids were allowed to play in the obstacle course for awhile and then came back up for snacks and cake. I served animal crackers, goldfish, crocodile teeth (apple slices), and worms (sliced up hot dogs).  I made two cakes. One was a rescue pack with the face on it and the other was Diego's face.  I cut out a round cake from a picture of Diego's face included the detail of his hair.  It looked great.  In order to make gift giving less chaotic, I asked simple animal trivia questions.  Whoever could answer first got to give their present.  For gift bags, I got small versions of my son's rescue pack from the same woman on Ebay.  They were so cute.  I filled them with jungle items from Oriental trading like tattoos, stickers, puzzles, sticky frogs, and notepads.  My son had a great time and kept trying to get me to change his rescue pack into stuff.
