Jungle Safari Party ... For our sons 5th birthday party he wanted a jungle party.
This was so much fun to do. INVITATIONS: I handmade the invitations out of colored cardstock. First I made a palm tree w/ a brown trunk and sage green leaves. I put all of the party information on the leaves (centered in the middle) They said: Come Monkey Around With Me! XXXX is turning 5. Join the jungle safari on XXXX. Your trip begins at 6:00pm with dinner along the way. We will meet at the (our last name) Jungle located at XXXX. Please call by XXXX to save your seat on the jungle safari. I then glued a monkey to the trunk and glued grass to the bottom of the tree. They turned out really cute. I drew one and scanned it and then cropped each piece and printed out on the right color paper. DECORATIONS: This was a blast decorating for this party. And I spent no more than $15 dollars on decorations. We had this party in our family room in the basement. As each child came downstairs they had to check in. I decorated a card table w/ some cream colored fabric and burlap. I used 2 pieces of bamboo (which I got at a dollar store) at each corner and hung a sign at the top that said "check in here". There was a chair for the child to sit in and upon doing that I helped them make their safari passport. I premade cards that said: Jungle Safari Passport across the top. I then took their picture with an izone camera w/ the sticker pictures and stuck them to the the passport. They then chose an animal sticker that I got from OTC. Once we were done with all this, I laminated the passport, with a peal and stick laminate that I had precut to the right size, and tied string to put it around their necks. Then I used a play shot from our medical kit and everyone got a shot and a pill to enter the jungle. The pill was a miniature M&M. Once done here they went into the jungle. I hung streamers from the ceiling all over the area of the family room that the party was in. From the streamers I stapled leaves that I cut out of green construction paper, this really added to the feeling of a jungle. I made paper chains from green construction paper and hung them all over from the ceiling to walls as vines. I made palm tree leaves out of large green construction paper and used fabric cardboard rolls to make palm trees. They really looked authentic. I made the bar into a Jungle Juice Bar with bamboo poles on each end and green fabric that I fringed hanging from the ceiling between the poles. I hung fabric from the ceiling and placed a stuffed snake on top of the fabric hanging over. We placed rubber snakes all around. I bought blow up jungle animals from OTC and placed them all around, one went home w/ each child. FOOD: We ordered pizza and a tray of chicken nuggets, animal cookies, chips, pretzels. I kept the food easy since this was a Fri night party. CAKE: I made a snake cake by baking one chocolate and one vanilla cake in a bundt pan. Once cooled, I cut the cakes in half and laid them on a cardboard sheet in an "S" pattern. I cut the cake at the tail end to make it skinny like a snake tail and shaved a little cake off of the head end to make it "V" shaped. Iced the whole cake green and added mini M&M's for scales. Cut a piece of fruit by the foot for the tongue and stuck it into the icing. GAMES and CRAFTS: We made binoculars out of toilet tissue rolls that I precovered w/ animal printed paper. They also decorated visors w/ foam animal shapes. We played King of the Jungle says (...says squeak like a monkey, roar like a lion, swing your trunk like an elephant, etc.) We played pin the banana on the monkey. Then we went on the safari and I made up a story to take us on the safari. FAVOR BAGS: I decorated brown lunch bags w/ a black sharpie marker w/ animal markings. Inside I placed animal stamps, stickers, an animal blackboard w/ chalk, all from OTC. Also, an animal puzzle that they could color, found at a local craft store. I then folded the bag over and make 2 hole punched and tied the bags shut with rafia. This was such a fun party to do and my son and all his friends had a great time ... so did the parents!
