Rainforest party. I recently had my daughters 5th birthday and it was a jungle theme. I sent out the invitations that were in the shape of an elephants head with large ears and a long trunk.
The trunk and ears folded up. When opened it reveals the info needed for the party. (I did get this idea from familyfun.com). As each child enters the house they are given a choice of an
animal to be. I handed each child a foam mask of the animal they chose. I ordered a lot of my stuff from oriental trading. The decorations are as follows. We have a large den and I
filled the ceiling with animal striped balloons, filled with helium, which I purchased from oriental trading. The balloons had
strings attached long enough to touch the top of each child's head. We have a party fogger and I had the whole den fogged up (as a rainforest would be). I downloaded some rainforest music (which is relaxation music. It sounds like heavy rain falling with birds screeching in the background) This was played continuously in the room while we went on a wild safari. For this I bought those little plastic animals and hid them all over the room. Give each kid a baggy and the one who finds the most receives a prize. With the fog it was easy to leave the animals out without making it too difficult. We also played catch the lion by the tail. This is duck, duck, goose but the child runs around with a tail in the back of his or her pants. The child running after them has to get the tail from the lion. We also had the lion wear a lion mask. I downloaded jungle music for the games. (such as George of the Jungle or Hakuna Matata or Jungle boogie). We played musical pillows (not enough chairs) to the music. We had a giraffe pinata. And to top it all off my mother-in-law made a snake cake. Take two bunt cakes, cut them in half (now you have four pieces) and arrange them in the shape of a long snake. Cover with green icing. M&M's as spots on the snake. And life savers as eyes. Goody bags consisted of the original mask given out. Boxes of animal crackers can get expensive so I bought a big container from Costco and made each child a baggie filled with them. Slap bracelets from oriental trading with striped animal print. stickers and whistles shaped like animals. As a snack I served pigs in a blanket.
