My son turned one in June. I wanted to have a big party for him to celebrate his first year but did not really care for the usual " first birthday themes" that were available. I decided on a jungle theme. My husband and I rented a 20\*20 tent and covered the inside with tree limbs, ivy, and ferns. We hung monkeys and parrots from the limbs.  We also placed potted plants, palm trees and ferns throughout the tent. In the center of the tent we released helium filled balloons in green, blue and yellow. We had hanging lanterns leading the way to the tent from the gate entrance. Rubber snakes, alligators and birds greeted the guests at the gate.  We have a small pond with a fountain in our yard so we put some inflatable elephants and zebras at the "watering hole" .  Giraffes, lions, tigers and more elephants and zebra were throughout the yard. We served "ostrich" ( grilled chicken) and " wild bore" ( BBQ pig) along with fresh pineapple, strawberries, peaches and grapes, coleslaw, baked beans, and pasta salad.  The birthday was made by my mother. It was 3 layers with the top two on tiers.  I bought jungle animals for about 5 dollars a piece and they were placed around the layers and the tiers. The tiers were covered with icing to resemble trees and candied flowers were added also. On the top layer was an alligator and a big #1 candle.  It was lots of fun and people are still talking about it. We did spend a lot but they only turn one once.
