King Kong Party - My son wanted a jungle king kong party. We Made up the invitation as though it were a postcard. It stated that Johnny was on an island in the jungle and was trying to capture King Kong. King Kong had stolen the treasure (loot bags) and even captured some of Johnny's island friends (rubber lizards and frogs, wooden snakes). Johnny needed their help to capture King Kong. We used our bamboo garden stakes to decorate the front door so they actually had to come through a gate. My daughter and I wore a grass skirt to welcome the guests. Each guest received binoculars and a jungle hat.Once they all arrived, we used a kiddie wagon to take the kids in groups to the backyard. This was their 'boat ride' to the island. Once they all got to the back yard, the kids were given a note left by King Kong, taunting them that they'd never have enough food to survive in the jungle. The kids enjoyed using their binoculars to find food hidden in the tree fort in the back yard. They each had to climb up the tree house to grab a piece of food (bananas, mangos and coconuts) and roll it down the slide. We then opened a couple coconuts (we baked them in the oven before-hand and used a hammer for easy cracking). Each child had a taste of coconut. They then received another note left behind from King Kong taunting them that they'd never get over Alligator River. We used hoola hoops to act as a hop scotch. We cut out crocodiles from paper. They had to hop only in the hoops that had no alligator/crocodile. On the way, they had to stop and grab a rubber lizard or other jungle friend to save. Another note from king kong (the notes were all tied with twine) led them to the mud pit. They had to walk through the mud in bare feet (it was our little kiddie pool). They washed their feet off in a bucket. They moved on toward the sandbox that we hung a rope swing over. This was a 'jungle vine'. They had to stay clear of the quick sand. Once they made their way back to the house, my husband was hiding in a tent set up in the yard (surprisingly, the kids didn't ask about the tent the whole time!!). A note told them that King Kong had their loot bags. While the kids were pouring over the lizards and snakes they had saved along the way, I encouraged them to use their binoculars to find King Kong. My husband sat in the tent opening eating a banana. It was hilarious when the kids spotted him. I then equipped each child with a can of silly string and told them to catch king kong! They had a blast catching him and spraying him. Some of the more timid kids just stood by me while this went on while I sprayed the string but most kids loved it. We then had cake and presents. It was the best party I've ever done by far and my son had the greatest time.
