My son, who was turning five, wanted a Tarzan party.
I wanted to do something special for him but I didn't have much time or much money. My son had the misfortune to be born in early September right after his school teacher mom goes back to work. I felt bad because I couldn't afford a pool party or skating party, etc. like many of his friends were having so here is what I did. We live on a semi-wooded area. I made big card board likenesses of some of the characters from the Tarzan movie and nailed them to trees in different places around the yard. When the kids arrived they saw Tarzan in a tree and a sign that said, "Tarzan's Jungle." They came in the house for present opening and cake and ice cream first. I made the cake and put a big Tarzan on it and we had Tarzan decorations. After cake and ice cream I told the kids we were going on a safari in Tarzan's jungle. I told them we had to stay together in a close group to be safe in the jungle. I lead them around in the yard until we came up to a big picture of a gorilla. I told the kids the gorilla was trapped and we had to help save him. The kids had to try to toss a ring on a spike in order to free him. They all lined up and took turns at ring-toss. Everyone had three tries. We cheered for everyone and the ones that made a ringer got a little treat size bag of m&m's. Then, we moved on to a picture of a leopard. I told the kids that the leopard was very dangerous so we had to keep a safe distance from it. I said we had to use our special magic weapons to keep the leopard from attacking so we took turns throwing beanbags at it. Three tries each again and m&m's for prizes again. Next, we went to an elephant. The elephant did not have a trunk. I told the kids he had lost his trunk so we had to help him get a new one. We played pin the trunk on the elephant. After that game, I told the kids they had to run around and find pictures of jungle animals which I had tacked to trees all over the yard. The one who found the most got a prize. After that, the kids had a little time to run around and play in the yard before parents started picking them up. I sent them home with a little goody bag and pack of magic markers I had gotten from one of those "everything's a dollar" type stores. The party went great. The kids had a lot of fun. The cleanup was minimal, and it didn't cost allot of money. Hope someone can use some of these ideas.
