For my son's 6th birthday party we rented the meeting room at our community club and turned it into a JUNGLE ADVENTURE. INVITATIONS - Using craft paper I cut out a monkey head, drew a
face and added googley eyes (you can get a bag of small eyes at the dollar store). On the back of the monkey face I had all of the party info, inviting the kids to 'Swing in for a Jungle full
of fun' and to 'come in their Jungle best.' -We had everything from wild animals to safari guides to jungle natives show up! PARTY DAY - In the meeting hall I set up zones so the kids (about
20) could move from activity to activity in an organized way. When they entered they stopped by 'Customs' to recieve their passport (using construction paper I made booklets that had the name
of an activity on each page. When the kids completed the activity they would recieve a 'stamp' - we used animal stickers - in their passport). We decorated the hall with pictures of jungle
animals (I drew most of them on poster board but some of them I found as colouring pages on websites) and different shades of green streamers taped to the walls to look like tall grass. We
had printed up signs on the computer for each activity and attached the plain white sign to funky jungle craft paper I picked up at the local scrapbooking store. ACTIVITES - We set up an
obstacle course (Jungle Peril) - before hand I used craft paper to paint a quick sand pit and an alligator pit. We used a mesh tunnel for a cave, and I lined up a bunch of our son's wild
stuffed animals along the way. We had a Snake Pit where the kids were given an old striped tie to decorate with googly eyes, pom poms and foam pieces. We then attatched an extra piece of
fabric on the under side for the kids to slip their hands into making the snake/tie a puppet. We also had an observatory. Before the party with the help of a crafty friend I painted a large
jungle muralon craft paper and added some small disney characters (Simba, Baloo, ect.) in the picture. The kids were given an empty roll from toilet paper to decorate then they could use
their binoculars to spy on the disney jungle creatures. And for the kids who just wanted to mellow, we had a small TV playing The Lion King and Jungle Book in 'The Elephant Graveyard' (an
area with a rug and tons of comfy pillows). Just before cake (store bought) and presents we gathered all the kids together and did the Limbo. I usually give the kids a small present instead
of a bag of candy so for the girls we found animal print purses and the boys got flashlights. We did the whole thing for under $150!
