I was trying to find a birthday party idea that I could do at home for both my 3 year old son and my 5 year old daughter. I finally settled on a safari/jungle theme since my son really likes Go Diego. Although my daughter doesn't watch Dora anymore, she thought the idea sounded fun. First, for the invitations I used the Wild About You" stamp set from Stampin' Up! with a lion on the front. The inside read: "Your passport to a Safari Birthday for... Expedition begins at 2:00pm Safari Headquarters (our address) Reservations (RSVP) Don't forget your passport for the adventure!" Included in the invitation I made up Safari passports with jungle print paper. On the left side of the passport was a space that said "child's photo here" and on the right side it said "Name Age and Favorite Wild Animal". For decorations I had signs outside that said "Watch out for Lions" "Caution Giraffe Crossing" and "Safari Straight Ahead." On the front door a sign read "Ring bell for your safari guide". I had decorated our living room with green streamers to look like a jungle pulled all my plants into the living room for effect and played rainforest music. I also found some jungle stuffed animals from my kids rooms and placed them around the room.  Before the kids arrived I had all of their activities set up at tables in the kitchen to keep them busy (and also so that I didn't have 12-14 kids running crazy through my house!) Each child's seat had a paper bag to decorate with stickers (goodie bag for later) coloring pages (Diego from Nick Jr) and safari sticker scenes (Oriental Trading) to decorate. I also made up my own trail mix to set out at the tables using mini marshmallows pretzel sticks Teddy Grahams and M&Ms. I also found some fun Bug Bites graham snacks to set out.  As the kids arrived my husband and I were dressed in our safari hats and clothes. We asked for the kids passports which I quickly laminated with my Xyron and attached to a black lanyard that they could wear. I also gave each child a safari hat (Oriental Trading) and a safari stamp (paw print stamp from ACMoore). Each child was directed to their seat in the kitchen to do their activities while the other children were arriving. I also had Go Diego jungle music playing in the kitchen. For the other activities: we had a safari hunt. While the kids were in the kitchen I hid a bunch of plastic jungle animals around the living room/dining room area (bag of 12 at WalMart for 88 cents). I asked all of the kids to come in the living room and began asking them what kind of animals we find in the jungle and what their favorite wild animals were. They really got into this! Then I had the kids run around and find all the wild animals. When they found them they had to bring them back to me and put them in the cage (one of my kids toys - a doggie kennel). They had so much fun doing this! Then we played pin the tail on the Tiger. Pretty self-explanatory - my husband drew a Tiger on a piece of orange poster board and I found some "tails" at ACMoore.  For the cake - I made my own cakes. I frosted them light green. Then I used piping gel tinted with teal coloring (Wilton) to look like water (lake). After that I used dark green icing and piped grass around the water and around the cake. I used some of the plastic animals for the safari as animals on the cake. My daughter wanted one of the alligators in the "lake" which looked really cute.  For the goodie bags - while the kids were eating cake I grabbed the bags and filled them with some safari stickers (roll of stickers from Oriental Trading) a paw print chocolate sucker (made from a mold from ACMoore) some of the plastic animals from the safari hunt Animal Planet fruit snacks and a Go Diego party favor. The party was a huge success and relatively stress-free even with 11 kids due to the fact that I planned everything out."
