Royal Gala - 5 year old For my daughter's fifth birthday she wanted to be a Queen, so we decided to have a ROYAL GALA.
We were able to use our community hall, which was perfect because we did not have the room in our home. There were 8 girls, including the Queen and two boys invited. The invitations read Hear Ye! Hear Ye! By Royal Proclamation Princess ôgirls nameö of girls last nameö is hereby invited to join Queen name of last name in celebrating her 5th year of ruling the land. Followed by all the information of when and where and an RSVP to the Queen MUM (me). We asked that the children be dropped off (I made sure I had lots of help) and this took place on a Sat afternoon, so the parents could go do what they wanted. We had stations set up for finger nail painting (quick dry), body glitter, hair glitter, and tattoos/body stickers. For the girls I made Victorian head pieces from purple, pink and yellow tulle braided together to make a halo for their heads and about another 18 inches hanging from the back. There was a store selling off dress up clothes after Xmas, so I was able to purchase dress up out fits with tops, skirts, gloves, bracelets and rings for each one of the girls. For the boys I made them felt tunics with a felt crest on chest and a jester hat, I took a strip of foam core to fit around their heads, then cut different coloured triangles that were attached to the band, I then attached two jingle bells to the point of each triangle, they were so cute. I made wands for the girls that were personalized with their initial and paper fans to hang from their wrists and for the boys I had swords and made them personalized shields. To keep everything in order I made the girls personalized purses from large sheets of foam core, cut into a purse shape, then punch holes around the edge and sewed them together. The boys I took large top open shoes boxes and decorated and personalized them as treasure boxes. I dressed the part by wearing a wig, buying a very old-fashioned flouncy dress at a used clothing store, had a hat with lace, lots of pearls and made glasses from gold pipe cleaners. We started the Gala off by the children having the nail painting, etc done, then they got dressed in their outfits and we had pictures taken in the throne chairs I made in front of a cardboard castle. They were then each announced and walked down the red carpet ($ store tablecloth). They played Kiss the Frogö (version of pin the tail); musical hula hoops, in which they all had to end up in one hula hoop; and Animal sound bingo. I had a craft table set up for anyone who didn't want to participate. The craft activity I had them all do was decorate their masquerade masks that I made from coloured card stock and pencils. I then read them a story about the Queen, in which they all started out with a gift that they had to pass every time the word Queen was said in the story. We had a princess cake with a tiara and sceptre on it. I had this in the afternoon so I did not have to prepare a meal, but did provide snacks such as pretzels, cheese and crackers and fruit and dip. As well a fruit punch. We made royal goblets by placing stick on jewels on wine glasses from the $ store. There were lots of streamers and balloons. For favours, I made them each a royal activity book with coloring pages and a variety of other activities, all printed from the internet. They also got to take home a decorated paper bag full of easy craft ideas and instructions for the parents (one thing was paper dolls). I had parents contact me afterwards to say thank you for the favours. It was a great party and my daughter would like another one for her next birthday.
