I am in the process of planning for my son's fifth birthday party. I will provide costumes for each child.
We have a list of 13 people(including mom and dad). Dad and Mom will be the King and Queen we will wear capes and crowns. Birthday Boy will be a dragon slayer complete with helm and cape and specially made shirt with his name and chain mail. I am planning on ordering the "knight costume" from birthday party express. I will create the chain mail shirt myself so he has something special to keep forever. The invitees will have costumes provided to them by the King and Queen. I came up with the following ideas... Prince... will wear a small crown and cape. Will be given a jeweled scepter made with a dowel painted gold and a foam ball painted red with jewels attached. Jester... We have several children under 2 years of age and for these I will provide a jester's hat and dowel with ribbons ending in small bells. Princess...The princess will have a play tiara and cape and star scepter Knight...Will wear a sword, shield, hat and cloak Wizard...Pointy hat with stars and moons, staff made of dead branches with a large shiny rock attached at the top, and a cloak with stars and moons Voyager...plumed Hat and belt with compass and telescope Lady(child's name)...Cape and Scepter I am planning to make all of the capes from inexpensive felt and add little braid, jewels, fur...etc to finish them off. The children will take the costumes home with them when the party is over so they will be very simply made. The invitations will be hand delivered parchment style with a real red ribbon and wax seal on them so they look like they are from "royalty" They will say "Hear Ye! Hear Ye!" The King and Queen request the presence of their royal courtiers at a Royal Birthday Party for their son Bailey, The Royal Dragon Slayer. Be prepared to fight dragons and save princesses! Time Date Address...etc. The party will begin with supper as it will begin at 6:00 PM. We will have chicken legs on the grill and goblets of royal punch. After supper we will get the kids into their costumes and begin the games. I work for a rental agency which has access to many large appliance boxes. We will have a castle made from 4 boxes complete with drawbridge and felt banners with the royal crest in the front. Our games will encorporate the castle, I have 3 ideas.. For the first game We will have a scavenger hunt for the royal treasures. We will hide little trinkets and "gold coins throughout the play area and inside the castle. This way everyone gets to be a winner. The second game will be to rescue the princess. The princess will be in the castle guarded by the evil dragon...dad. The children will have to work together on logic clues and a map to "find the princess" and then will have to answer a riddle to lower the drawbridge to rescue the princess. We will then have a dragon shaped pinata for the kids to smack. After the games we will have a castle shaped birthday cake and open gifts. Each child can present their gift to the birthday boy. For favors, I am going to make a "cookie bouquet" of painted sugar cookies on a stick. I have a castle a dragon and a shield. Each child will receive the cookie favors with the child's picture on the front of them... (digital). A fun time will be had by all.
