Knight and Princess Party My twin sons wanted to have a knight and princess party for their 6th birthday. It also worked well because we have a 'little tikes' castle in our
backyard. My sons were the 'Princes/Kings' for the day. The invites were construction paper castles that had a drawbridge that folded down and had the party information. (i.e. Noble knights
and Ladies Fair are invited for feasting and festivities..... On the envelope of each invitation was addressed with the child's last name as the place they are from.... Sir Bobby of
Smith/Lady Kelly of Adams.) For decorations we had balloons and I made dragon banners with ribbons hanging from the sides. The banners were hung from thin dowels and hung around the yard. It
kind of looked like those you would see at Renaissance/Medieval festivals. The birthday boys wore royal shower curtain capes with white felt around the edges with black felt triangles glued
on the trim. They also wore gold crowns. I had a thrift store wedding gown dyed pink and their dad wore a blue graduation robe also from the thrift store. I ironed on silver and gold stars on
the robe and made a yarn beard and he was Merlin. The wise Merlin could be asked questions by the party goers. (The most popular question was 'Will I be a millionaire?')
Each child was 'knighted/or made a lady' when they came. Everyone received costumes and accessories. Boys got a tunic made from a pillow case with arms and neck cut out. They received a sword, shield (can be made of cardboard)and a rope belt with a ring on it to hold the sword. The girls received cone hats made with posterboard and tulle coming out the top. The girls also had tunics and a tie on apron style skirt made from tulle. All the material I got on sale for $1.00 a yd.(or less) at Wal-Mart in their clearance section. The girls also got jewels from the dollar store. They had to search for the grail. Each guest got a plastic wine glass that had jewels glued on and then covered in foil and hid throughout the yard. These were their drink cups for the party. We also tied balloons on a string and tied them to an ankle and they had to stomp each others balloon. The last one or two to have unpopped balloons wins. Make enough to play this a couple of times. I did not award prizes to winners because there will always be hurt feelings. (High fives and good jobs are great rewards!) We ate a castle cake and opened presents. When a guest would give their gift they would receive a dragon bag and get to pick out a prize for themselves(carnival trinkets). After that we slayed a dragon (piņata filled with gold coins and jewels). Always have extra of costumes, accessories, loot so you're prepared for surprise guests and accidents (items that break or tear). This was the best party!!! All the kids, Boys and Girls, had a fabulous time. I even have neighborhood kids asking if they could come to our next party.
