Ladybug party for 1 year old.  We wanted to do something different for our daughters 1st birthday so we did a ladybug theme.  My husband and I made the invitations, which were made with black and red cardstock. The black cardstock was the body with head and legs, the red cardstock was attached to the black body and the wings opened up and the party information was listed there. I typed the party invitation information on our computer and then attached the party information to the bug with glue. We drew black spots on the red wings.When you opened the red wings the invitation said, "Our little lovebug is turning one, won't you come and join the fun!"  They were adorable and a big hit.   We also make party hats which were white card stock with lady bugs that we stamped on using a rubber stamp. We use red ribbon for the tie, which was much nice and easier to use then elastic. It was easier for my daughter to wear as well and she hates hats! It was easy to make the hats and they were very festive.   We decided that since there were going to be people there who did not know anyone that we would make name tags which revolved around how this person was attached to our daughter, for example, Maddie's great grandpa Glen, etc. We put a flying ladybug on the bottom of the name tags in keeping with our theme. We used red balloons with black streamers along the fence which followed our drive way and used red balloons in the yard.   We used white table cloths with red plates and cups and white napkins. I even managed to find a basket shaped like a ladybug to hold food in! The local baker made our cake and put small ladybugs on the cake in keeping with our theme.  We used the same ladybug invitation template to use as the favor bag ids. Each child received their own favor bag with age specific items. Instead of the black spots we wrote the childs name on the ladybug and attached it to white gift bags with red ribbon. (the ribbon was attached to the handle on the gift bag so it looked the ladybug was floating across the bag) We use curled black pipe cleaners for the antennas. For the adult favors we painted babyfood jar lids red (we got the idea from someone else on this website!) and filled the jars with candy kisses. We purchased ladybug memo magnets from a catalog and attached the ladybug magnets to the jar lids and put a thank you note from my daughter with it.  We did not have planned activity for the kids since the party was only 2 hours long but one of the things we did do was purchase live ladybugs from a landscape company so the kids could look at the ladybugs. We put toghether some interesting facts on ladybugs and also typed up a ladybug poem for the kids to look at and read. The adults guessed how many ladybugs were in the jar and the person who guessed the amount received a prize!  We also dressed my daughter in a red gingham dress which had ladybugs on it. The party was easy to put together and was alot of fun. It was also fun that my husband and I were able to make alot of the items together.
