Our daughter just turned one, so we celebrated with a LUV BUG PICNIC party.
For the invitations, I got red cardstock and punched two holes on top to attach a sheet of red gingham and vellum. I stamped ladybugs on the gingham, and then printed OUR LITTLE BUG IS TURNING ONE! on the vellum. This was all attached by a red ribbon tied in a bow. The inside of the card had the party information, with sayings as BUZZ ME for the RSVP. I also stamped ladybugs on the inside of the card and the envelopes. We then had a ladybug cake made for the guests, and a smaller version for our daughter to eat. Everything was set up outside at our house. We used tarps to protect everyone from the sun, and the tables and chairs were set up under there. We decorated with red gingham tablecloths (actual material so they can be used again) and red tablecloths (from the dollar store!). Each table had a small red gingham box with red, white and black balloons attached. We put canned food in the boxes to weight them down. I also stuffed them with white tissue paper. Red, white and black balloons were hung everywhere...on the fence posts, tables, front of the house, and on her high chair. We also had about 6 ladybug balloons I found at a party supply place. On the food table, I placed the red cups and plates in a picnic basket I had. I rolled the knives, forks, and spoons in a red gingham napkin secured by red, white and black curly ribbon and placed them in the actual cups of the real picnic basket. We served sandwiches, potato salad, chips and dip. I also made peanut butter and jelly sandwiches cut into hearts for the children. They really loved this! I also made ladybug cupcakes and laid them on "grass" which was toasted coconut dyed green. I just frosted them solid red, and used black piping to make the dots and the center line. I cut up licorice and used that for the antennas. I also bought gummy worms and laid them in the "grass" by the ladybug cupcakes. I also made the dessert called "DIRT". You use cream cheese, pudding, sugar and Oreo cookies to make your pudding base. You can them put it in a flower pot (lined with tin foil) and alternate layering your pudding and Oreo cookies. You then top it off with crushed oreos, to make it look like dirt. I then bought an artificial flower and placed it in the "dirt" along with a few gummy worms. The party favors were placed in the same small red gingham containers that were on the table. I had ladybug picture frames for the girls along with some other things, and the boys had some fake bugs. It was a great party, and OUR LITTLE BUG will never forget it.
