Jesse's 6th Bionicle Birthday: My son loves Bionicles, especially the Toas and the new Metru Nui made by Lego.  Unfortunately, there aren't any party ideas or supplies yet available so it was up to us to come up with a Bionicle themed party. As masks are central to Bionicles, the most obvious beginning was to design masks for all the kids.  There are 6 main Toas - green, blue, red, black, brown, and white.  (Don't forget that blue is Gali, a girl!) I made templates for all 6 Toa masks, traced them onto the corresponding colored craft foam, then attached oval elastic cord to hold the mask on.  For my son, I made the "mask of light" of Takanuva, the 7th Toa, using white foam and painting it gold.  The Lego Company was very generous in sending me posters and small plastic Bionicle masks for all the kids.  I used the posters as one of the rewards and used the masks to decorate the top of the red and blue cupcakes that I made.  For games, we started with a "Toa Challenge" consisting of an obstable course with 6 events related the Toas' elements - water, earth, air, ice, stone, and fire. Examples: for water, a squirt gun to shoot down Bionicle canisters; for air, a mini-trampoline to jump on; for fire, walk on a balance beam across lava; for stone, carry a bucket of rocks.  The reward for finishing the challenge was a Toa mask. The second event was a disc throw related to the Metru Nui. We set up to two poles as the goal and had an older boy act as the guard.  The guard was dressed in a mask, shin guards, elbow pads, and held a Bionicle shield. Each player was given 3 discs (mini frisbees) to throw past the guard. The reward was a Bionicle poster. The last event was a crystal hunt. I bought sparkly easter eggs and hid them around the yard.  Each egg was filled with candy and a picture of a Bionicle.  After finding a crystal, they had to open the crystal to find which Bionicle they would put together.   I purchased Matarons which are about $4 each for each child to build.  Next, we sat down at tables and put the Bionicles together.  Parental assistance was needed to help with directions. The Bionicle was their party favor to take home.  For additional activities, there was a "Guess How Many Bionicle pieces are in the Jar" and "Design your own Disc" using white construction paper circles.  We ran out of time, but we had croquet mallets and balls out to play "Kohli" like in the movie. The Bionicle movie played throughout the party for those who wanted to watch it.  For decorations, I used three of the Toa colors - red, blue, and gold for balloons, table cloths, streamers, etc. I laminated all of Jesse's Bionicle posters and had those posted all over the house.  A group picture of all the kids in their Bionicle masks made a cute cover for the front of the thank you card. I also made a packet of pages to hand out when leaving with pictures of favorite Bionicles (Toas, Bohrok, Rahkshi, Mataron, etc.) and typed up the Mataron alphabet (I found the font on a fan website) for kids to decipher a secret message as well as to make up their messages.  It was a lot of work but the boys had a blast!  They continue to ask me to make more masks for them today.  Don't know much about Bionicles?  Check out the Book, The Official Guide to Bionicle.
