Hawaiian Luau! This Hawaiian birthday would be great for kids around the age of eleven to fourteen. It also works as a surprise party. For the invitations, clean-out and dry little water bottles. Add some sand at the bottom and a few shells. Next, type-up the invitation information and roll it up. Tell them to bring an umbrella and a beach towel. Now stick it inside the bottle. Make sure you check how many stamps to put on the bottle for mailing it! For the actual party, limit the guests to around five, because this is going to be a VERY elaborate party! When the guests arrive, greet them with a lei (purchased from Oriental Trading Company) and say, "Welcome to Hawaii". Show the guests to their "resort". For every guest, there is a lounge chair (if you don't have these already, don't buy them just for the party). Here they can lay out their towel and put the umbrella above the lounge chair. You can also purchase coconut cups for Oriental Trading. Put these by the lounge chairs and fill them with fruit punch. After every one has come, show them to the "village". Now give everyone a certian amount of shells for money. This is how they will pay for things. For the village, set-up four tables with sings at each of them. They will all be stores. STORE #1: This is the flower shop. Of course, you can think of a more creative name. There are leis, flower headbands and flower pens to buy here. (To make the flower pens, just cover a ball point pen with green ribbon. Purchase a fake flower and hot glue it on top!) STORE #2: This is the Ukulele shop. (Make sure to price this very high.) Guests can make their own ukuleles! Once the guest pays, they go to a small table where they recieve a carboard shoe box. It already has a circle cut in the middle, as well as eight nails across from eachother. The guest can decorate the box with markers, stickers and glitter and they can pick out four different rubber bands to stretch across the nails. When you strum the rubber bands, it sounds like a ukulele! STORE #3: This is the pet shop. From the Oriental Trading Company, you can purchase blow-up tropical animals(For example, there are monkeys, parrots and flamingos). Guests can buy a petfrom Hawaii! STORE #4: This is the name store. Guests can find their name in Hawaiian! Before the party begins, go to this site: http://www.hisurf.com/hawaiian/names.html. Search your guests names and find out what they are in Hawaiian. Now, write their Hawaiian names on frisbees, tote bags and beach balls. For the party, have the guest tell the person "working" behind the table their name. Then the person will hand them the frisbee, tote bag and beach ball with their name on them. This should all be one price! After everyone has explored the village, let them look at their things for a little bit. Then take them to the beach for fishing! Before the party, fill-up a inflatable kiddie pool with the number of goldfish coresponding to the number of your guests (For example, if you have five guests, than put in five goldfish.) For the party, give everyone a little net. You can buy these to clean out goldfish bowls. Everyone tries to catch a fish! Once they do, give them a plastic bag to put the fish in. This is guaranteed to be fun! Next, take everyone to the volcanoes. Before the party, make two or three paper mache volcanoes. Do the whole classic vinager, baking soda but NO red food coloring. We don't want it to stain! At the party have everyone walk around the volacnoes, and then blow one of them up when no one expects it. Then do the next, then the next. Now everyone can use their beach towels to dry them off! Now that it's starting to get dark, send everyone inside to watch a beach video, such as Gidget. Outside, parents are setting up for the dinner. Where there was once goldfish, add inflatable whales. (This is going to be the festival of the whales. In Hawaii, when the whales come, there is a big festival.) Set-up the dinner, which should consist of coconuts (for decoration), pineapples, kiwi, ham and Hawaiian Pizza (This is avaiable at some places). Have Hawaiian music playing in the background. Once you are finished setting up, call everyone out and say that the whales have come! Now everyone is eating and talking. Once they have eaten cake, it is time to open presents. When the birthday girl is done, everyone is handed a present of their own. (Before the party, purchase white shirts and decorate them with fabric paint. Make sure they say, 'Hawaiian Princess'.) When everyone opens them, they can wear them as pajamas. For the rest of the night, they sleep in the house and can watch the rest of the movie!
