Shop Party 6yr

July 2008

For my daughters 6th Birthday, we had a Shop Till You Drop party.  INVITATIONS: were made to look like a Mall brochure, the front cover read Raven's Mall an Exciting Place for Kids ~ Shop till you drop.  It had the hours of operation (time of the party) the date, address of our home and phone number to RSVP.  On the inside it listed the stores inside the mall and gave a brief description of what they would find in each particular store, for example in the Cosmetic Store, they would find, lip gloss, mirrors, cosmetic bags etc.  We had six stores for the kids to shop at, a music store, cosmetics store, candy store, jewelry store, stationary store and a toy store.   When the girls arrived at our home, my daughter greeted each of them with a $10 bill (play money with her face on it). ACTIVITIES/GAMES: The party started off with a game I call Chat About.  Small cards with different questions on them that each girl had to go around the table and answer, as a way for all of them to get to know each other. Example: If you could have dinner with someone famous, who would you choose & why?  What is your favorite song? They seemed to like it. Next we made bracelets, rings and necklaces. The girl who made the most, won money to shop with, actually all of the girls won money, but the girl who made the most got more money. Then we had the girls sit in their chairs in a circle and played Pass the package very similar to musical chairs, but instead it's played with a package.  We took a small gift and wrapped it in several layers of different wrapping paper (1 layer for each girl) once the music starts you pass the package around the circle, when the music stops, the person holding the package gets to rip one layer of wrapping paper off  you keep going until the last person gets the package and rips the last layer of paper off, that person gets the gift. As each girl tore off a layer of paper, they were given $6 (play money with my daughters face on it), including the girl who won the gift.  food:  Time for lunch the girls had pizza, chips and punch which they paid for with their play money.  The final game was a short story my daughter wrote about herself that she read to her friends.  After reading the story, I asked questions about the story to see what they remembered. For every answer they got correct, they won money.   Finally it was time to shop, so each girl was given her own shopping bag. I made big labels for the bag that read Raven's Mall Shop Till You Drop and the date.  In another part of my house is where the mall was set up, decorated with Sale signs Free gift with a purchase signs, streamers, balloons and store signs.  Each store had a table a table. The cosmetics store sold cosmetic bags, lip stick holders and hair scrunches, the candy store sold Tootsie Rolls, Bubble gum and Laffy Taffy, the jewelry store sold, necklaces, bracelets and rings, the stationary store sold notepads with pens, pencils and stickers and the toy store was strictly devoted to the toddler guests, they got hardcover books, activity books, pencil bags and stickers. The girls had a great time, more importantly my daughter had a great time and said it was her best party ever.
