Scavenger Hunt 12yr

July 2005

Isabelle in Sydney, NSW, Australia

For my best friend's 12th Birthday Party, she had a shopping party at a local shopping centre. When we arrived we were each given a an empty gift box with our name on it. First we did a Scavenger Hunt. We were divided into teams and each team was given a list of items that could be found within the shopping centre. In our teams, we had to find all those items around the shops and tick them off on our list, writing down the price and the shop were we found it. The first team back to a designated spot with all the items ticked off each won a prize to put in their box. Then we did a game called "Shopaholics". Everyone was given one dollar, and we had ten minutes to buy as many items as possible. Then we had to go back to our spot, and the 5 people with the most single items won a prize to put in their box. Also, everyone put what they bought in their gift box. Next we all walked to a nearby park and had a picnic lunch, with sandwhiches and pies and sausage rolls and chips and softdrink. We played a few games of limbo, and musical statues, and the winners got a prize each. Then we all had a go at hitting the pinata, which was shaped like a handbag (for the shopping theme). When it broke, we all filled our boxes with the lollies inside, until they were almost overflowing! Finally, we all chatted and did craft. We each got a peice of coloured paper and a handbag stencil. We had to draw on the handbag and decorate it however we wanted. There was prizes for prettiest bag, craziest bag, and most colourful bag. We added our decorated paper-handbags and prizes to our boxes, and then, on the way out, we each got a lucky dip. The idea of the boxes was instead of loot bags, and it was a much more fun method. My friend made sure everyone got a even amount of lollies and prizes, so it was fair and fun. The prizes included chocolate coins, bubbles, candy necklaces, little purses, bracelets, notebooks, and heaps of other stuff. It was a really great party and I reccomend it for other girls.
