Little Mermaid 4yr

Honorable Mention

My daughter had The Little Mermaid for her 4th birthday party theme. Thirteen kids attended, and I (I mean the kids) had a blast! I ordered "message in a bottle" bottles from Sandartsupplies.com (.65 cents complete with cork), and bought the Little Mermaid print studio software on EBAY for about .99 cents. I used the print studio to make invitations that read, "Elizabeth Jones is turning 4, won't you join us on the ocean floor?." We rolled the invites, tied them , and stuffed them in the bottles. I mailed them, so I made good use of the space I had on the invitation. I printed directions to my home on the back, and inside was a note to Mom to bring the bottle on party day for "a fun sand art activity."  As the children arrived, they were free to enjoy the bounce house, play-doh table, giant bubble wands, or color Mermaid color pages printed using the same software.  The backyard was filled with bubbles made with the Mermaid bubble blower, the soundtrack was playing outside, and the video inside. We covered one wall of the party area with blue fabric, and decorated it with ocean bubbles (clear balloons), cutout fish, kelp(dollar store plastic palm sprays), and placed beach balls at the bottom. We hung a fish net with cutout crabs and fish on the opposite wall. We also had a Giant Ariel balloon, and two dozen helium balloons tied to the fence for a festive look. The food table included a bucket of goldfish crackers and a bucket of m&m's with small shovels for serving.  The cupcakes were topped with mermaid cupcake rings for the girls, and sharks for the boys.  The tables were scattered with pirate booty (chocolate coins). We also had a pineapple cooler for the kids' juice boxes. First, we did our sand art. The kids gathered around a table under a canopy. There was a variety of colors, and several funnels. I also bought little bracelets for the kids to fill with sand (sand and bracelets purchased from Oriental Trading. This activity was a huge hit). Then we had cake. Each kid had a personalized placemat (same software), and I took the time to print activities on the back(mazes, word searches, connect the dots), then had them laminated. The boys had pirate themed placemats, plates etc.(birthday express).  Each place had a small bag of goldfish crackers, and a nut cup with m&m's. Some kids enjoyed decorating their cupcake with the m&m's. After cake, we had a mermaid race. The kids laid on the ground, and with legs tied together, they pretended to "flounder" across the finish line. The boys loved this as well! We had a little kid winner, and a big kid winner. Next was the Ariel pinata. All the kids loved it. The girls had empty Ariel loot bags to collect their goodies, the boys brown-bagged it. The boys were occupied with their pirate swords, hats, and eye patches. Then we opened gifts. As the kids left, I passed out goody bags (I found stuffed Ariel dolls at the party store, what a find!) I included age appropriate themed toys (squirt fish, disney crayons, ring pops, Ariel stickers, and shell lip gloss for girls.  Pirate tattoos, eye patches, crabby patties, and telescopes for boys). Since the goody bags differed with age, I used the software to make name tags.  I also peeled labels off of 4oz. bubble bottles and made personalized labels for each chid, example: Amber - thanks for making my birthday a Splash! (again, the software) Each girl also took home a coloring page and a mermaid door hanger both printed from Disneyprincess.com.  Never a dull moment at this party!
