Little Mermaid Party This year my daughter turned 6 and wanted to have a little mermaid party. We color copied different sea fish from my sons preschool, cut and mounted them on coordinating cardstock. Printed all of the party info on the back and mailed them out.  We rented a community room and decorated one wall with blue, green and white streamers. On the streamers and the wall we taped more of the fish cutouts.  It made it look like an ocean of fish.  We then placed a blue tarp down and had all of the games in this area. We served lunch for the guests and used the Little Mermaid plates and napkins.  My daughter and I found a recipe using blue jello, red swedish fish, gummie worms, cool whip and cream cheese. The bottom was the cool whip and cream cheese made it look like the ocean floor and the jello sat on top.  The fish absorbed the blue dye and so did the gummies but it looked really cool in the glass bowl. We had fishy cracker mix, seafood salad and lemonade drinks for the kids. For games, I bought a little blow up pool and had all of the prizes for the games inside and covered with crumpled blue tissue paper. This way no one could see what they were.  We blew up blue fish punch balls for all of the kids to have so we didn't have to worry about too many balloons floating away. We played the little mermaid music and Mickey's La Vida Mickey.  Limbo was a blast and the kids enjoyed it, instead of a stick we used some crepe paper that we lowered. We played pin the tail on the mermaid, using a coloring page that we took to the copy place and blew up super large. My daughter colored it and it came out so cute. We made two copies, one smaller and used this one to cover up the picture on an old pinata from last year. We cut out tails and put all of the kids names on them.  We played "pass the mermaid" to La Vida Mickey. After each game, each child was able to "go fishing" in the pool for a prize. They really enjoyed not knowing what they were going to get. I tried to have the prizes fit the themes. I purchased small beach balls, compasses, telescopes, fish notepads, fish pencils, sunglasses, fish that grow, fish squirters and a wide assortment of other toys. I purchased them through smalltoys.com and oriental trading.  Great prices! Our last game was a treasure hunt. I prepared four boxes, three small covered boxes with brown packing paper and decorated with markers to look like treasure chests. The last was a small styrofoam cooler. I read the rules to the kids and started them off to box number one, this contained the map.  I helped them read the map since they are all pretty small still.  The second box contained a compass, the third contained the small telescope and the fourth x marked the spot.  This was the cooler with all of their goodie bags.  It was so much fun because I told them they had to all go together and find each x. When we found the cooler we headed back to the "ocean" and passed out the goodie bags.  The goodie bags were canvas drawstring bags that I purchased from bagsplus.com for .60 a piece and we stamped them with Stampin'Up Fish Frolics stamps using fabrico markers. When I say we I mean my daughter and I.  She helped with everything!  We also put each child's name on their bag. As a thank you I bot fun foam fish frame kits from Oriental trading.  I snapped a picture of each child and am sending it in the frame along with their thank you.  Each year my daughter has had a themed party, I can't wait till next year. It's worth the effort to see her have so much fun and to see all of the children enjoy themselves. Thats what parties are for!
