Little Mermaid Theme Party for 4 year olds.  As the children came to the party, I had a craft table set up and ready to go. They each got a little sand bucket (Target $.99) with their names written on the bucket with black puffy paint. I had purchased "sea" themed foam stickers and regular "sea" stickers at Michaels for the children to decorate their buckets however they wanted. After decorating their buckets, they needed to keep them with them for the whole party. We purchased "Ariel's Favorites" music CD and played the music in the background.  When the Sebastian Limbo song came up, we had all the boys and girls do the limbo with an old closet rod.  After they played that game, we played "musical fish". I had cut up big fish out of construction paper. Each fish was a different color. First the children sat with me and called out the colors of the fish, then I spread the fish around the room (an area big enough for dancing around in).  Then I played the Ariel music and the kids either had to mimic my dancing or do their own dance. When the music stopped, they had to find a fish to stand on. I would call out one of the colors and that child would come up to get a prize (bubbles) and put it in their bucket.  We kept playing until all the children got a prize. They loved this game especially since it got out all their wiggles and each child won a prize. Then we went outside and blew bubbles. For lunch, the only creative thing I served was peanut butter and jelly sandwiches cut out in fish (using a cookie cutter I found at Michaels) and I put a raisin in the sandwich as an eye.  I also used the same cookie cutter to make jello-jigglers, and I served goldfish crackers. After lunch, present opening, and cake eating, we had a treasure hunt. Each child was to get their bucket and I had taken pictures of rooms or places throughout the house (inside and out).  The children would look at a picture of one of the rooms and as a group go into that room and find the next picture clue.  I took enough pictures so that each child could be the leader in finding the next picture clue.  The actual treasure hunt was in our backyard sandbox where my husband buried candy for the kids. They had to find ring pops, candy necklaces, and chocolate gold coins. They had a blast finding their treasures. Make sure you bury extra for those hard to find candies (we were finding candy weeks after the party). As a thank-you gift to the children (and since I love books), we gave the girls a cute mermaid book called "The Mermaid's Ball" with Tattoo stickers in it and for the boys we got them a cute Richard Scary book called "Pie-Rats Ahoy". The 4 year old kids had a great time at this party.
