For my daughter's third birthday, we had a Little Mermaid party. For the invitations, I used Disney's Little Mermaid Print shop to make them individualized.  I then rolled them and tied them with twine. I placed them in a bottle filled with sand, shells and toy jewels. The message on the invitation read," A message in a bottle for (the child's name). Ariel invites you to (my daughter's name) birthday party." I used the Print shop labels to cover the outside with the names and addresses.  Believe it or not these do mail. For the decorations, we used blue teacher's paper to cover the walls and then we cut out metallic fish and glued them.  We also put a picture of my daughter in a mermaid outfit on one of the walls so that each guest could sign a special message. For the rest of the house and backyard, we filled the ceilings with green and blue helium balloons, we hung plastic fish and used metallic door hangings to create the effect of being under the sea. For party favors we gave each family a real life goldfish in an ivy bowl. Ariel visited the party and each child took a Polaroid picture with her. We then had a decorate a frame table where the child could make a frame for the Polaroid. We found that the parents enjoyed this activity more than the kids.  It gave them something more to do then eat and talk. In addition, we had a Polaroid treasure hunt. Since the kids were to young to read the clues, we used pictures of areas in the house that showed where the clues and prizes were hidden. The treasure was a mason jar for each child filled with gold coins, silver and gold kisses, and jelly beans and gum drops as jewels. We served fish tacos to add to the theme. We all had a great time.
