We came up the idea of an April Patriotic birthday theme. My 4 year old son turning 5 really wanted a Spider Man party but were kind of spider'd out so we got an idea and combined the
two ideas. We decided to send out invitations on a patriotic background themed paper. In the middle we said "come help celebrate the 5th birthday (childs name) who is
proud to be an American born on (childs birth date). We then went on said come help celebrate his birthday and our American pride! We rolled up the invitations and tied them up
with red white and blue ribbon.
We then asked kids to dress in the red white and blue theme. We decorated everything in red white and blue with flags hung up everywhere. We had floating balloons around the room. We had banners saying "born in the USA". For games or activities we had purchased some very inexpensive tshirts in various colors of red, white and blue. We found some American heart iron on patches for the shirts. We then had the kids decorate there own shirts. They were able to take the shirts home and along with that we took a little goodie bag and filled it with 2 american colored pencils, some flag stickers, a waving flag, a flag pinwheel and even some yellow ribbon (appropriate for this year) with a little note attached explaining that they can tie the ribbon around a yard tree with there family members as a nice thing to do together. We loosely tied up the bag with some red white and blue ribbon. We found some great removeable childrens tattoos for the kids of the american flag and we put them on there arms (with parents permission). In an effort to tie in the Spiderman theme we had a spiderman cake and put a flag in the hand of spiderman. The patriotic theme was a great way to help kids understand the importance of showing your American pride!
