Dragon Party 4yr

January 2009

Maggie in Virginia Beach, Virginia

For my son's 4th birthday party he wanted a dragon themed party. Of course at that time there were not many dragon items at any store so I had to order most of it online.  Right after the party I found all sorts of dragon items...  go figure.  His birthday is in February and I like to try to plan ahead, especially since with this party I had to order a lot of items online.  We rented out a room in our neighborhood's club house.  The main room had blank walls so I found on Halloween clearance some wall scenes that were stone walls.  I also found doorways and windows that looked like castle windows.  We hung those up and the room transformed into a castle. I had two different color green balloons tied to the tables and just scattered around the ceiling. For games we had dragon bowling. At partypalooza.com  they had these really cute inflatable dragons so we bought six of those and lined them up and at walmart we found a dragon playground ball and we used that to throw down at the dragons to knock them down. We also played hot-dragon, like hot-potato, with my son's dragon toy.  My husband has a large printer at work so he was able to print out a large dragon from clip-art, I painted it to make it more colorful and we played pin-the-fire-on-the-dragon.  We made fire with red, orange, and yellow tissue paper. The last game we did was a dragon hunt and beforehand my mom and brother had gone outside and wrapped green curling ribbon around several trees and the kids had to follow the ribbon until the found the dragon in his cave, which was a dragon pinata tied up on the monkey bars of the playground. For food we didn't have anything dragon related just standard party food but my husband made an amazing cake shaped like a dragon. You can find it online if you google search it, but you take 2 round cakes and cut them according to a pattern and then you cover them with frosting, we dyed ours green and added spikes on its back and toes and eyes and all of that.  The best part was that we put 4 (because he turned 4) candles in the mouth of the dragon and sang happy birthday and then he blew the fire out. It looked like the dragon had fire coming out of its mouth. For favors I made coloring books of dragon clip art that I found online and gave each kid a box of crayons.  I also ordered a few little small gifts from OT and dragon bags also from OT. The invitations read: Magic spells and dragons glalore, games pizza cake and so much more, our smiles are big and excitement soars, as we celebrate Mikey turning four!  I had bought cut out cards from OT in the shape of a dragon, painted them green, added a google eye to each side and wrote in silver and black pen.
