My daughter Bridget is learning French in school so for her 8th birthday she wanted a French themed party.
The Invites: An Invitation from The House of Chanel" inviting our aspiring Designers to join them in Paris for "cocktails" and then to walk the runway. It also included a "plane ticket" and "passport" I made on Microsoft Word. Food: When the girls arrived we seated them at a long table together. We had "cocktails" (non-alcoholic drinks in plastic pink martini glasses) and little finger food deserts. The tablecloth was pink and I put the food on silver three tier desert trays. I didn't have enough so I had to borrow from others. I found a silver candleabra at Goodwill but decided against lighting it! If I were to do this again I would get those little conversation cards they make and put them on the tables for the girls to read. It's Paris you're supposed to relax enjoy and converse! Activities: I went to Goodwill bought 4 dresses split the girls into teams and let them cut and add stuff to their dresses. They chose one member of their team to be the model. They dressed her and made her up and sent her down the runway. Each of the girls also got to walk the runway. I honestly thought they were going to blow through this activity and have nothing to do for an hour but I was so impressed that they really took their time and were VERY creative with their dresses. Because there was no time to sew we used safety pins instead so the adults had to help them with that part. I made the runway out of a long 100 ft plastic tablecloth (it comes in rolls for under $10) taped it down used white Christmas lights wrapped in tulle around the edge and had a three panel screen (found at a garage sale) for them to come out from behind. I also had a strobe light but my darn fog machine died last minute so we had to do without that. Oh for background music during the meal I downloaded a French singer Edith Piaf's album "A Voice of the Sparrow". For the runway music I used Cirque du Soleil's "Solarium/Delirium" album. I took pictures of all the girls and their teams on the runway. For a Thank You note I made a "Newspaper" using Microsoft Word put the pictures on the page with captions about the Designers and their fashions and titled it "The Fashion News". "
