Fort Party for toddlers My 2 year old son loves to build forts out of old blankets and sofa cushions. As an inexpensive idea for a party we decided to host a fort party. I
cut black construction paper into the shape of a castle for the invitations.
We contacted local furniture stores and got truckloads of large appliance boxes. We set them up in a maze in our large basement. We duct taped them together, cut numerous windows and doors, and did some decorating inside. We had a fireplace room with a hearth and a red light bulb shining in from up top, a garden room with stamps and stencils of flowers and bugs, and a star room where we stacked another box on top and placed silver Christmas balls in it hanging on strings. We spray painted panels to look like castle walls and put them up around the outside. We had one box cut out as a dungeon. We took photos of the guests and parents in the dungeon and will give copies to them when developed. This party easily accommodated children of different ages (0 to 5yrs old were in attendance), was free other than food, and was a different idea for an indoor party when the Feb weather is so cold here.
