A "BABY Birthday Party! My daughter's had theme birthday parties all of her life, and at 11 years old, this might be the last one, so we wanted it to be outrageous! We came up
with having a "BABY" party where all of the 11 and 12 year old girls (who can get very silly and goofy!!) would dress and act like babies!! The invitation was done on my home
computer with graphics of babies, footprints, rattles, etc. and read something like this "Remember when you were a baby and life was so simple? Well, relive those baby days and
crawl over to our house for a BABY birthday party.
Wear your pj's and bring a teddy bear and a blankie. We'll have your binkies, rattles and bottles waiting for you!" Also in the invitation I asked them to send me a photo of themselves as a baby (one year or younger). We plan to decorate using pink and blue and maybe some character decorations such as Barney, Teletubbies and Elmo. For the party my daughter, husband and I will dress as babies, in footed pj's, with oversized bibs, bonnets, rattles and bottles (available at costume stores...they'll also be our themed Halloween costumes). We'll have dollar store baby bibs, pacifiers, rattles and bottles available for the "babies" when they arrive. We'll set out a bunch of her old baby toys, including blocks, sorting toys, pull toys, etc. Once everyone has arrived we'll start with a baby-themed story. Of course they are encouraged to talk baby talk (as long as I can put up with it!!) Using the photos that they sent, I'll prepare a poster and have everyone try to guess which baby picture is which. Other games will be London Bridge and Ring around the Rosy, as well as a crawling race and freeze dance (baby style!!) to baby music. For the craft we'll decorate frames using baby-themed stickers and I'll return their baby photos for them to insert into the frames. We may also have a short "nap" time with blankies and teddies, and I may put on a Teletubbies or Barney episode during it! At cake time, we'll drink from bottles (I'll enlarge the nipple hole for them) and eat from baby bowls with baby spoons and forks. I may even serve baby food (applesauce..nothing too yucky!!) that their parents can feed them! For goody bags, I'll include Baby Bottle Pops candy, pacifer shaped lollipops, mini boxes of Cheerios and/or baby cookies, pacifier necklaces (usatoys.com) and rubber duckie keychains. The party is not for quite a while, but my daughter is already practicing her baby talk!
