My son is turning 1 on Feb 4 and we are inviting a few children but mostly adults. So, we decided to have a two-tiered party.
2-4pm will be the "Kids' Party"; Blowing out the Candle at 3pm and then from 4pm onwards will be an "Adult BBQ". This way, all rambunctious children will be cleared out lending way to a less stressful time in the evening where Mommy and Daddy can celebrate with our friends. I don't want to be spending a lot of money on this party but at the same time want it to be very special and memorable. I won't be decorating in any one strong theme, but instead following a bright and festive look. Red, blue & yellow balloons, plates & cups, etc. The thank you cards are being specially made with a 3-D effect to hold a picture taken at the party. As for party favors, since the kids are 12-15 months, I am putting two small board books (perfect for little hands and mouths), bubbles and some healthy treats into a bus-shaped tin that has wheels. All little gifts in another gift. And then attaching a balloon to each tin bus. We are also creating a "Time Capsule" for my son... asking everyone to bring something to have him open on his 18th birthday in 2019. I saved the newspaper from his birth date, am putting in a pair of Mets' tiny shoes (Daddy is a big fan), the t-shirt the hospital gave us, along with the calendar that I have used for the past year to document his growth and achievements. I am personally very excited about the Time Capsule idea. I love the thought of opening it when he is older and talking about the what the world was like when he entered it.
