Potato Head Party (2 & 3 year old girl and boy) Since our children's birthdays are only 3 weeks apart and they have many of the same friends I always try to choose a theme that they
both enjoy and works well for both boys and girls. We always invite parents as well, and like to serve a meal. Our Mr. & Mrs. Potato Head Party was a big hit with the kids and the
grown-ups. Dinner was a baked potato bar. Preparation was simple as the potatoes bake for a few hours before the party and the chili cooks in the crockpot. I also put out butter, sour cream,
salsa, bacon pieces, black olives and lots of shredded cheese. For the craft we made Potato Head puppets. I sewed the little pototo shapes beforehand out of brown felt. I provided lots of
little scraps of different colored felt, google eyes and Velcro pieces (the kind that has the peel off to a sticky back). The kids (and parents) cut out all the accessories for their potatoes
and stored the extra pieces stuck on to the back of the puppets. The game we played was "stick the part on the potato". My husband drew a big potato on poster board and then drew
and cut out all of the pieces from colored paper like eyes, eye brows, nose, mouth, ears, mustache, hat, arms and shoes. It was fun to watch the kids try to get the pieces where they
belonged. (We didn't even blindfold the little ones, but still got plenty of laughs!) I printed out word search puzzles and riddles from www.mrpotatohead.com for the grown-ups to do along
with coloring pages for the kids. To make the cakes I used my "batter bowl" from Pampered Chef. I baked a yellow cake right in the bowl, turned it upside-down on a plate and frosted
it in chocolate. I made 2 cakes, one for Mr. and one for Mrs. I then washed and dried all the pieces from our Potato Head toys and stuck them into the cakes. Quick, easy, and a lot of fun!
Had the kids been a little older I probably would have done a pinata as well. But for this age, dinner, dessert, a game, a craft and some coloring pages was more than enough!
