For my son's 4th birthday, he wanted to have a Bar B Q Grill Birthday Party.
The talking Bar B Q was at the top of his list for presents. We handed out invitations that looked like webber grills, when you lifted off the lid" there were hamburgers and hot dogs with the party info on them. We cut out hamburger and hotdog shapes out of construction paper and glued it to the grill for that 3D effect. We had the party outside in the backyard. The tables were decorated with red and white picnic tablecloths and for center pieces I bought ketchup and mustard bottles (the red and yellow squeeze kind) and filled them with water to weigh down red yellow and white balloons. The rest of the decoration were lots of balloons and streamers. I found adorable napkins and plates that had hamburgers napkins and grill utensils on them. I also made a webber pinata. To make the pinata I used a round balloon instead of the typical shaped pear balloon. I covered the balloon with green tissue paper that was cut into strips with fringe. I covered the top hole with the "handle" to the grill. I made the handle out of black construction paper rolled into a tube. The legs of the grill were three tubes of construction paper covered with foil and hot glued onto the bottom of the grill. I added black tissue paper around the middle to separate the "lid" from the bottom of the grill. Every child received a plain child sized apron bought from a craft store and they decorated their apron with fabric paint in the squeeze bottles. The birthday boy wore a chefs hat with his name on it. I also used the mustard and ketchup bottles to fill with the kids party favors and wrote "Austin's Bar B Que" (the birthday boy's name) in puffy paint on the outside of each bottle. We also had a relay race where the kids had to carry plastic hamburgers on a spatula. If we wouldn't have had so many smaller children there we would have had a ketchup and mustard fight with yellow and red silly string. The cake was 1/2 a sheet cake that looked like a red a white tablecloth the top had plastic bar b q food items on it. I even found hamburger and hotdog candles. I have seen that Wilton has a webber grill birthday cake pan now that would be super cute. Dad of course cooked hamburgers and hotdogs on the grill for everyone the birthday boy helped out. There are a bunch of picnic games that could be played also i.e. three-legged race potato sack race egg toss etc. This is a great and different party idea for that little chef in your family and is relatively easy to do. Hope you enjoy it we sure did."
